The Crystal Army, also known as the Vengestone Army, are the titular main antagonistic faction of Crystalized in LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu.
They're a legion of crystalized warriors who serve as the army of the Crystal King, who is actually the Overlord, with the goal to take over all of Ninjago. They consist of the Council of the Crystal King, the Crystal Warriors, the Crystal Spiders, the Dragonides, and other crystal-themed creatures created by the Crystal King.
History[]
Following Garmadon's downfall as the Emperor of Ninjago, thanks to Lloyd's intervention, the Overlord crossed paths with Harumi, recognizing her exceptional skills and audacity. Impressed by her potential, he proposed a deal to Harumi: if she pledged her loyalty to him, he would grant her life once again. Initially hesitant, Harumi eventually agreed and was resurrected. Entrusted with the central crystal, she was tasked to journey to the Oni Temple and embed the crystal there, transforming it into the Crystal Temple, which would serve as the Overlord's new stronghold. The Overlord manipulated Harumi after he revealed his true identity, convincing her that darkness had the power to vanquish light and bring everlasting peace to Ninjago under his reign. Consequently, Harumi was commanded to construct an army forged from Vengestone, a rare material that rendered the soldiers impervious to Elemental Powers. However, due to the scarcity of Vengestone, Harumi spent years procuring it from Vangelis and later Miss Demeanor.
The Overlord wanted to establish a council known as the Council of the Crystal King, which would serve as the generals of the Crystal Army and be comprised of notorious villains. The selected members of the council included Aspheera, Vangelis, Pythor P. Chumsworth, the Mechanic, Mister F, and Harumi, with Harumi taking charge of bringing the recruits. When news of the Crystal Council reached the ninja, Lloyd took it upon himself to infiltrate the Crystal Temple in disguise as the Mechanic, hoping to uncover the true identity of the Crystal King and his intentions. Unfortunately, Lloyd's plan was foiled when he was discovered by one of Harumi's Crystal Spiders, leading to a tense confrontation and putting the ninja in a precarious situation.
The Council of the Crystal King dispatched a team to the Monastery of Spinjitzu in order to acquire the Golden Weapons, aided by Crystal Spiders that wreaked havoc on the monastery. Once in possession of the weapons, the Crystal Council facilitated the manifestation of the Overlord as the Crystal King. The Overlord then animated the Vengestone statues by crystallizing them, transforming them into Crystal Warriors. The Overlord embarked on a mission to invade Ninjago City in order to draw the ninja to him. He believed that by corrupting the ninja and their Elemental Powers, he could disrupt the Balance. The Crystal Warriors and Dragonides advanced towards Ninjago City, impervious to the ninja's attacks thanks to their Vengestone and crystals, while transforming their victims into crystal zombies.
