Cthulhu is the main antagonist of the one-shot comic Godzilla vs. Cthulhu: A Death May Die Story.
History[]
Ctnulhu was woken up by the Nightmare Children when they realize they are about to be discovered and to prevent this, they summon Cthulhu with the help of Tsathoggua by offering all of Boston as a sacrifice and then the rest of the World. As Cthulhu rises up, Sandra can feel his presense as many marine life were dying and being absorbed by him, and as this happens, he also unintentionally wakes up Godzilla from his slumber.
Cthulhu would then surface from Boston where the Great Old One rampages across the city where military attempts to subdue him by dropping bombs on him to no avail before he summons Fishers From Outside and Dholes to destroy some of the planes. As Cthulhu rampages, the Great Old one grabs people with his tentacles and destroys buildings with his Red Lightning until a boat slams into his head out of nowhere, and knocks him down. The boat to the shock of everyone, was tossed by Godzilla.
Surprised by the new creature willing to challenge him, Cthulhu changes his focus from destroying Boston to killing Godzilla as he attempts use his minions to attack him. Godzilla kills them all with a single tail swipe, causing Cthulhu to try and subdue him with his tentacles and then shred Godzilla's Soul with blades made by the same Red Lightning. However, Godzilla breaks free and slaps Cthulhu in the face and off his feet before ripping off one of his wings and then a few tentacles from his face.
Desperate to defeat the new unexpected foe, Cthulhu summons illusions of various other Kaijus that Godzilla has fought in the past, including Anguirus, Mothra, Rodan, Baragon, and King Ghidorah. The illusions of Mothra and King Ghidorah attack Godzilla until the X-A Airships fire their Atom Smasher Cannons at Godzilla and Cthulhu.
While they manage to bring down Godzilla, Cthulhu is completely unfazed by them, roaing in victory and continuing his path of destruction.
But the fight for Earth isn't over just yet. Godzilla manages to absorb the energy of the beams fired up in him from the Atom Smasher Canons, and uses them to charge up and fire an Orange Spiral Heat Ray at Cthulhu, dealing massive damage to the Great Old One, severely burning him and rendering him completely inactive.
Godzilla has saved the world from Cthulhu, restoring balance and order to Earth, and delaying Humanity's inevitable extinction. For now.
