~ Cthulhu

Cthulhu, credited as the Bound God, is the main antagonist of the Love, Death & Robots episode "In Vaulted Halls Entombed".

He was voiced by Fred Tatasciore, who also voiced Dracula and the Thanapod in the same series.

Appearance[]

Akin to his appearances in other media, Cthulhu is a creature with a design that is indescribable by human perception. He is portrayed as a mountain-sized monster when fully standing, with bat-like wings that are double his body length and four flaying tentacles in front of his mouth. His head frills out into five large spiked horns. He also posses twelve glowing golden eyes, which he uses to communicate and brainwash his victims.

Biography[]

A special forces rescue unit is sent to stop a group of insurgents who have taken hostages. Seeing them enter a cave, the troops enter after them and discover skeletal remains, recognizing them as the hostages due to an army tag. They deduce that the others are the insurgents, confusing them since they saw them moments ago. While exploring, they come across mysterious creatures resembling spiders. The spiders suddenly grow into a giant horde and chase after the troops, devouring some of them. As they descend down a huge staircase, the spiders evolve to grow sharp legs that they use to climb down the stairs with fast velocity and kill another member.

Down to Coulthard and Harper left, they explore further into a mysterious building with a green aura coming around it, faintly hearing someone, or something requesting them to come. Coulthard blindly follows the voice against Harper's advice that it may lead to something dangerous. Indeed, the voice is revealed to be that of the eldritch god Cthulhu, and the mystery building was his prison.

Coulthard and Harper feel a sharp pain in their brains as Cthulhu attempts to break their minds with disturbing images of the god destroying humanity. Cthulhu then orders them to release him from his imprisonment. Coulthard, under his brainwashing, follows the god's orders and attempts to use a grenade to blast at the chains restraining Cthulhu. But Harper manages to snap out of her trance and stops him before he could destroy it. The brainwashed Coulthard attacks Harper with a knife only for Harper to shoot him.

Cthulhu then demands Harper to release him. She refuses to follow his orders and shoots him with all of her remaining ammo, but her bullets deal no impact to Cthulhu as he continuously demands her to free him from his prison.

Eventually, Harper manages to escape from the cave. However, she gouged her eyes out and sliced her ears off to avoid Cthulhu's manipulations. She also murmurs an unintelligible language, leaving it ambiguous if Cthulhu escaped from his imprisonment or not.
