The Cult of the Absolute are the main antagonists of the 2023 RPG fantasy video game Baldur's Gate III, set in the Dungeons & Dragons world of the Forgotten Realms.
It is an evil religious and fanatical organization that worships the Absolute, an enigmatic divine being who is revealed to be an Illithid Elder Brain empowered by the Chosen Three, who represents the Dead Three: Bane the God of Tyranny, Bhaal the God of Murder, and Myrkul the God of Death.
Description[]
The cult's followers included many goblinoids, Gnolls and Drow elves, as well as humans.
Those in high positions were known as True Souls, though Disciples were above them in the hierarchy. Many of the followers of the Absolute appeared to be stationed in Moonrise Towers. Those of the cult appeared to have been branded with the cult's symbol, which is actually the symbols of the Dead Three mixed together.
The true leaders of the cult are the three chosen of the Dead Three. These Chosen were Lord Enver Gortash of Bane, Ketheric Thorm of Myrkul, and Orin the Red of Bhaal. The empowered elder brain was brought under their command through the use of the Crown of Karsus, an artifact of untold power created by the ancient archmage Karsus, in his ambition for power. The Chosen used three unique Netherstones to communicate with the Crown, and dominate the elder brain and use its psychic powers to dominate the people of Faerun.
