Cynthia Velasquez is a major antagonist in Silent Hill 4: The Room. Originally a kind and flirtatious woman, Henry Townshend encounters her in one of Walter Sullivan's worlds with Cynthia believing the horrific events going on to simply be a dream. When the two try to find a way out together, she is brutally murdered by Walter as part of the ritual of 21 Sacraments, with Cynthia symbolizing the 16th Sacrament, Temptation. She then goes on to become a ghost and one of the most notorious enemies in the series, Victim 16.
Personality[]
Since before even being an adult, Cynthia enjoyed partying and having a good time, as she would often sneak into clubs despite being underage. While very sultry in nature and even perhaps somewhat promiscuous, she was kind and friendly towards others, even to be people she had only just met. When she met Henry, if they managed to escape together she offered him a "special favor" as a reward with deeply sexual undertones. When she met a younger Walter Sullivan in her youth, she was nice to him even when her friends weren't, but would later become very angry and disturbed upon learning that he been watching her for an extensive period of time.
The reason for her becoming hostile as a ghost is never explained, though there are several possibilities, including; Either the malicious, ominous magics of Silent Hill and The 21 Sacraments for the Descent of the Holy Mother corrupted her soul and twisted it into a monstrous being, or the sheer darkness and brutality of her murder returned her as an extremely vengeful ghost, which is implied as she came back as an Onryō, a japanese spirit infamous for their rage and violence, obsessed with vengeance.
Trivia[]
- Cynthia's death is considered one of the most harrowing in the game, gruesomely slashed and stabbed countless times by Walter.
- The reason for this is likely due to Walter's severe misogyny, as the other female ghosts in the game were also murdered in particularly gruesome manners.
- Cynthia has a tattoo of Robbie the Rabbit on her butt, seen in her alternate outfit.
- She appears in the dance remix of the song Your Rain.
