~ D'Angelo Barksdale

D'Angelo Barksdale is a character in HBO's The Wire. He is the son of Brianna Barksdale, nephew of Avon Barksdale, and a crew chief of the Barksdale Organization, helping them sell drugs in West Baltimore. He is is often chastised by his uncle for thinking with his emotions and not his head. Although he eventually turns his back on the game, D'Angelo still committed numerous crimes in service to his uncle beforehand.

He is portrayed by Lawrence Gilliard Jr., who also played Dennis Brown in Straight Out of Brooklyn and Bob Stookey in The Walking Dead.

Background[]

D'Angelo Barksdale was born in West Baltimore, Maryland, in 1979. He was the son of Brianna Barksdale, the maternal nephew of Avon Barksdale, and the grandson of Butch Stanford. It is very likely he started peddling drugs for his uncle at a young age as a way to make money. At some point, he controlled the high-rise towers up at 221 West Fremont, and was in charge of organizing all of the dealers at the location and collecting their earnings, as well as making sure the heroin got sold. However, at some point, he panicked during a confrontation with Pooh Blanchard and shot him in front of a witness. He was subsequently arrested and charged.
