DJ Dan is the main antagonist of Help Wanted, the first story to be featured in Five Nights at Freddy's: Tales from the PizzaPlex#2: HAPPS.
History[]
Steve Snodgrass, an indipendent videogame developer hired by Fazbear Entertainment to produce games for them, first hears DJ Dan's voice on the radio when the latter announces a heavy blizzard, due to which Steve and his family become unable to leave the house. Sometimes thereafter, DJ Dan claims that the National Weather Service has reported three more inches of snow with a temperature of 15 degrees. Some days later, DJ Dan announces that it's Valentine's Day, which leads Steve to apologize to his wife Victoria for not having anything to gift her. Steve then attempts to change the channel, but is unable to: according to victoria, DJ Dan's channel is the only one which reaches them from out in the country.
Meanwhile, Steve is constantly tormented by weird and seemingly unnatural events: everyday, he hears an annoying, ringing low-pitched noise (which only stops when he works on the videogames Fazbear Entertainment commissioned him), while during the night he's tormented by horrific nightmares. Finally, one day the ringing sound gets so loud he starts to realize it can't just be a firgment of his imagination; after locating the fire alarm as the source of the sound, he breaks it. ringing sound finally stops, and Steve sees the house is different from what he remembered. He also soon discovers that both Victoria and his children are actually robotic endoskeleton: the ringing sound had caused him to hallucinate, and had been the source of his terrible night terrors. After managing to escape from "Victoria", he once again the voice of DJ Dan, who claims he's trying to help. DJ Dan tells Steve that his previous life was sad and lonely, and that he's better off with Victoria and his children.
Steve rebuts that they weren't real, but DJ Dan says everything he felt for them was real and he needs to let himself be happy, even if it means believing in an illusion. When Steve brings up the night terrors, DJ Dan replies that they were only used to inspire and motivate him and that they pose no harm whatsoever. DJ Dan then tells Steve to push a red button on the radio, which will grant him a life of bliss. Steve ultimately decides to follow DJ Dan's advice, and presses the button, causing all the illusions to turn back on. Steve then runs towards "Victoria" (whom she once again perceives as a beautiful woman), but, just as he's hugging her, she stabs him in the chest.
Trivia[]
- DJ Dan styles himself as "the music man", implying a connection with Music Man.
- As DJ Dan only appears as a voice on the radio, it's unknown whether he's a real person or an AI.
- DJ Dan's role in Help Wanted mirrors William Afton's one in Dittophobia, as both of them appear at the end of their respective short story as disembodied voices who manipulate the protagonist (Steve in Help Wanted and Rory in Dittophobia) into returning to live in the fake world they're stuck in, convincing them that the real world is more cruel and lonely, while they're loved and cared for in the fake world.
- Interestingly enough, while William Afton's voice in Dittophobia is pre-recorded, DJ Dan's one is live, as shown by the fact he's able to answer Steve's questions.
