Daddy is an overarching antagonist in the TV Series Doom Patrol. He is the manifestation of Kay Challis's physically and sexually abusive father. He is one of Kay Challis's alters which were created by Kay due to his abuse.
The real version of him and him underground was portrayed by David MacDonald, while disguised as Miranda he was portrayed by Samantha Marie Ware, and while surfaced she was played by Diane Guerrero, who also portrayed Jane's 63 other alters.
History[]
Kay's father[]
Kay Challis's father was physically and sexually abusive to her causing her her to develop DID and have multiple alters living inside of her, one of them being one named Daddy who resembled her father. It is implied that Kay's mother was aware of the abuse but did not interfere. Whenever Kay misbehaved, he would take her outside to the Well outside of the house and leave her in there overnight. One particular night however after he left a teenage Kay (surfaced as Miranda) in the well, Miranda was able to escape and climb up.
Kay Challis's father's fate is unknown however he is most likely dead by the start of season 1 as all the alters hated him and it was what most likely sent Jane to the mental hospital.
Underground Personality[]
As an introjection of Kay's abusive father as a child, Daddy was one of Kay's earliest alters to come into existence. When Miranda followed the Sisters' "Advice" and went to the Well in the past, he was the one who destroyed her. Later, he tried to do the same to the current Crazy Jane, the "Main," but he seemed to be destroyed when she said she wouldn't be afraid of him again.
By the time the Candlemaker killed Baby Doll and Flaming Katy, Daddy had adopted Miranda's form. Jane was the lone votor against tossing them into The Well. After offering Baby Doll and Flaming Katy their burial rites, the alters carried their bodies to The Well. When they arrived at The Well, though, part of the rituals came to a halt because Daddy was inside. Hammerhead promises the alters that they will all simply beat him up and urges them to quickly complete their mission.
Jane intervened, trying to persuade them to give Baby Doll and Flaming Katy some time to heal and explain that since they don't understand how this occurs or how it works, there is a chance they might survive. But to everyone's surprise, Daddy disguised as Miranda abruptly emerged from The Well. "Miranda" asserts that after she dumped her body in The Well, she eventually came back to life, together with Baby Doll and Flaming Katy. The alters comply and toss Flaming Katy's and Baby Doll's bodies into The Well. Then "Miranda" begs Jane to vacate her position as Primary so that she might demonstrate to Jane what Kay actually desires. Kay's body is taken over by "Miranda."
The following morning, "Miranda" prepared her new pals breakfast. She got to know Vic Stone, Larry Trainor, and Roni Evers. She confessed to being a big Rita Farr admirer when she first met her. They subsequently received a box marked "Do Not Open" on all sides. Their noses picked up the scant fragrance. It prompted Larry, Vic, and Roni to decide to open it, but "Miranda" points out that it instructs them not to open it entirely and advises them to wait for Niles. But they did open it. The white space painting was there. It had demonstrated the absence of Mr. Nobody and Beard Hunter. Later, Larry considered going to see his grandson. "Miranda" observed Larry and enquired about his wellbeing. Larry claimed he wouldn't enjoy worrying others about his issues, but Miranda seemed like someone he could open up to and he does. She merely tells Larry to be patient. Larry then made the decision to go see his grandchild, but "Miranda" informed him that this was the exact opposite of giving them space. If Larry could speak with Flit, "Miranda" was asked. "Miranda" says yes to allow Flit to help him. Larry and Flit returned home after failing to visit Larry's grandson, and "Miranda" seized over once more. Vic reveals to her and Larry his desire to operate on Roni in order to fix her. "Miranda" interrupted Vic and Larry's plan to operate on Roni and questioned if it would be wise to do so. She then makes note of how oddly everyone has been acting, including Flit, since the morning.
Daddy started quietly killing alters by dropping them into the Well while he was still Miranda. Scarlet Harlot, who Pretty Polly had discovered was missing, was the victim of his first murder. Jane started to wonder about "Miranda" when he also killed Lucy Fugue because everything had been going smoothly prior to her arrival. She was informed by "Miranda" that Kay was recovering and that those alters were no longer required. Jane offered to go collect Kay's childhood stuffed animal, Harry, when she mentioned she wanted it. When she got back, she proposed letting "Miranda" give Harry to Kay. But "Miranda" shoved Jane into the Well. Once more surfacing, "Miranda" accompanied the group to the fair to confront the Candlemaker. The other alters, on the other hand, pushed "Miranda" back into the Underground and demanded to know why alters kept going missing. During this moment, the Candlemaker managed to encase Kay's body in wax. "Miranda" appeared behind Kay as she neared Jane's now-closed station on the Underground. Daddy revealed to Kay that "Miranda" was not indeed Miranda by referring to Kay as "sweet baby."
Jane released Kay from Daddy's influence after climbing out of the well and realizing that Miranda was Daddy. Later, Jane tried to convince the others to assist her, but they refusedwher unresponsive because they were still under Daddy's control, leaving Jane by herself. After Jane learned that Miranda wasn't who everyone thought she was, she briefly put Jane and the others into a trance, which Kay eventually broke. Dorothy appeared to apologize to Jane for what she had done, but sadly, she was still unconscious. Within a short period of time, Daddy surfaced, called Dorothy a murderer, and threw her out of the room. Cliff went towards Jane when he saw her and Daddy punched Cliff out of the way. Daddy tried to kill himself and the others when he entered the basement by grabbing a barrel and some rope. He survived because Jane crashed a jet through him and collected his remains. Hammerhead answered Polly's comment about his return by explaining how they would handle it. For the time being, Jane and the others opted to devour his remains.
Apearence[]
Underground[]
As "Daddy," he appears as a huge figure consisting mostly off countless numbers of puzzle pieces assembled into Kay Challis's father's bodily form. Kay subconsciously had him resemble this way due to one particular encounter with her father in which she wanted to finish her puzzle however her father wanted her to come over and give him a "hug"
Later, after seizing control and posing as Miranda, Daddy makes an appearance as a young African-American woman wearing a plain white dress and sporting a few braids in her hair.
Surface[]
When "Miranda" appears in Kay Challis's body, Kay's hair lengthens to shoulder length. In contrast to Jane, "She" appears to favor largely simpler attire, which may reflect Kay's upbringing in a rural, pious agricultural town in Arkansas in the 1950s. The only distinguishing feature of her outfit was the addition of Miranda's favorite hoop earrings.
Daddy's physical appearance while on the surface changed once he revealed his identity; he now has scar-like wounds, black crater-like markings in her eyes, and pitch-black eyeballs.
