Daina Le Guin is a major antagonist in the 2011 survival horror video games Dead Space 2 and Dead Space iOS.
She is a Unitologist who wants to continue the makings of Markers and manipulated Karrie "Vandal" Norton in causing an outbreak on the Sprawl. Once Isaac Clarke was freed from the mental asylum, Daina manipulated him into following her location so she could keep him in stasis to make more Markers. However, she and her accomplices are killed by EarthGov, and fail in their plans as Clarke destroys the site twelve Marker and escapes.
She was voiced and modeled after Tahyna Tozzi.
Biography[]
Background[]
Not much is known of Daina Le Guin's past, but she would become a member of the Church of Unitology, who believed in spreading the Markers and starting the Convergence. The Unitologists would learn that a team of scientists were creating a Marker on the Sprawl by using patients Isaac Clarke and Nolan Stross, with the two having specific codes embedded within their minds from an encounter with a Marker. Daina decided to release Clarke from EarthGov so the Unitologits could spread the Marker's signal but would have to cause an outbreak to do so.
Dead Space iOS[]
Needing to sabotage EarthGov's sector to commence the outbreak, Daina worked with fellow Unitologist Tyler Radikov in manipulating Karrie "Vandal" Norton to achieve their goals. Once the Necromorphs entered the station, Daina congratulated Norton for kickstarting the outbreak.
Dead Space: Ignition[]
Though not heard or seen in Ignition, Daina assigned the Unitologist engineer Franco Delille to free Clarke from the Titan Memorial Medical Center.
Dead Space 2[]
Titan Station is overrun by Necromorphs and Daina is able to communicate with Clarke, as Franco was immediately killed after freeing Isaac. Le Guin offers to assist Isaac in escaping from the Sprawl, telling him that she can cure his dementia before it gets worse. Clarke is initially reluctant and refuses her offer but agrees after seeing that the entire station is overrun and that EarthGov is trying to eliminate him. While Isaac goes through the station to reach her, Daina explains that he has been on the Sprawl for three years and that another Marker was created. When Isaac is taken off course by Hans Tiedmann, Daina sends him to a Unitology area within the station, which causes Clarke to suspect Le Guin.
Once Clarke reaches her location, Daina has her men apprehend him, and explains that she wants to keep him alive to keep the codes embedded in his mind. She then explains that Isaac helped create the Marker on the Sprawl and tells her men to place him stasis on their ship. Before they could do so, an EarthGov gunship arrives and destroys the shuttle, which causes Daina to be dismembered from its gunfire. Isaac is able to escape once her accomplices are killed either from the gunship or the vacuum of space and is left with no options but to work with Nolan Stross. Daina's plan ultimately failed, as Isaac destroyed the marker, and escaped with the help of Ellie Langford.
Personality[]
Daina is deceptive and calculating, capable of manipulating both Karrie Norton and Isaac Clarke to achieve her own goals. With Clarke, she was able to put on a façade of wanting to help him, knowing that she could get him to come to her location when she promised to cure his dementia. Once she reveals her true nature, Le Guin shows herself to be arrogant, delusional and fanatical, showing great devotion in Unitology and starting the Convergence.

- Daina is the second character in the series to betray Isaac Clarke, the first being Kendra Daniels.
- Both characters are similar to each other's:
- Both Kendra and Daina are female characters who started off as a supporting character turned antagonist to Isaac.
- Both characters are computer experts and skilled hacker.
- Both also have a sibling.
- Both have worked for an organization with plans related to the Markers.
- With that being said, there is a possibility she was lying about having a brother to goad Isaac in going into the Church of Unitology.
- In the 2010 demo for Dead Space 2, Daina has brown hair and is modeled different than in the final release.
- It's possible that she was named after female authors Ursula K. Le Guin and Daína Chaviano.
