Dr. Daisuke Matoba is the secondary antagonist of the 2008 film L: Change the World, a spin-off of the live-action Death Note film series. Seemingly the devote partner of Dr. Kimiko Kujo's plot to save the Earth through decimating humanity who both co-lead the Blue Ship organization, in truth Dr. Matoba is a greedy weapons dealer who seeks the antidote so he can sell the world ending virus while ensuring he survives the after-effects and get money in the process.

He was portrayed by Masanobu Takashima, while in the English dub he was voiced by John Murphy.

Personality[]

Dr. Matoba is a psychopath devoid of any sort of humanity. While initially a supporter of Blue Ship's cause of saving the environment by destroying humanity, as it is revealed, Dr. Matoba was simply a greedy weapons dealer who only partnered up with Dr. Kujo to found the organization and initiate their plan for the sake of profiting off the virus by selling it off to the highest bidder. And for the sake of making money, Dr. Matoba has no qualms subjecting people, no matter how many or what their state, to agonizing death to have the virus tested, and is a complete coward. Unlike Dr. Kujo who is willing to die form the virus if it means saving the environment, Dr. Matoba is desperate to find an antidote to save his own skin and when infected, pleads for his own life as he admits he doesn't want to die at all. He is also intolerant of criticism, that Dr. Matoba personally murders one of his associates for calling him out for his greed.

Biography[]

Dr. Matoba has it sent to Dr. Kujo's office in the Infectious Disease Center of Asia so she and Dr. Nikaido can develop a cure under the guise of it being from Washington.

Dr. Matoba was properly introduced in the film meeting with one of his associates, Professor Kagami. Kagami was a genuine believer in Blue Ship's cause and upon uncovering Matoba's real plans of having the virus sold and calls him out for his greed, Matoba immediately murders him with a knife, and then announces to everyone else around that there is a change in plans. Frantic for the cure, Matoba has his team scour the archives for the antidote's formula, ordering Dr. Kujo to help. Learning that Maki and L have the antidote and the virus, Maki and Matoba has the former kidnapped
