Biography[]
Damon Hay first came to Weatherfield in December 2022 towards Christmas that year, initially posing himself as a legitimate businessman who had apparently ran a successful nightclub in Ibiza.
As time went on, however, Damon was revealed to be the estranged father of drug dealer Jacob as well as the half-brother of Jacob's ruthless crime boss Harvey Gaskell. It later transpired that Damon and Harvey were raised by their mother while she was still married to Harvey's father Wayne at the time. When their mother passed away and then Wayne soon died afterwards, Damon and Harvey were both raised by their aunt Sharon Bentley.
Because of his family connections, Damon became a controversial figure on the street as he seemingly wanted to pick up where Harvey left off by running his drug empire and terrorizing the street; Harvey had forced Jabon to groom young resident Simon Barlow in their criminal activities, which led to Simon's mother Leanne Battersby and her husband Nick Tilsley getting involved in the situation up until Harvey was eventually imprisoned for his crimes after killing Nick's ex-girlfriend Natasha Blakesman in an attempt to murder Leanne - which consequently left Nick and Natasha's son Sam Blakeman devastated by the circuimstances of her death.
When he first appeared on the street, Damon had met Nick in person and gave him a significant sum of cash to invest in his restaurant called the "Viaduct Bistro" for a business proposition. But then after Harvey had given a portion of the money to Nick in order to pacify his guilty conscience over Natasha's murder and Sam's heartbreak over her deat, Damon revealed his true colors to Nick by disclosing the real matter about his investment. He then wanted Nick to meddle drugs through the business and blackmailed him into giving Jacob a job at the Bistro, to which Nick was forced to oblige in order to cover up the fact that he had accepted money from Harvey and that his family's knowledge about this would upset them.
At the same time, Damon had made a pretense that he wanted to reconnect his father-son relationship with Jacob - only for the pair to fall out again when Jacob finds out about his father's true agenda and stands up to him before leaving the street afterwards. Damon netherless continues to pester Nick until he later reveals their secret to Leanne and Sam; both are ashamed with Nick for their actions before confronting Damon for his actions.
By 2023, as Damon began to settle himself on the street, he soon began to show a softer side of himself after it originally seemed that he preferred to run the Bistro on a more legitimate path rather than completely follow through with Harvey's ruthless illicit methods. It was then Damon got acquainted with Nick's sister Sarah Platt and her husband Adam Barlow, befriending the pair in the process despite their awareness of his connection to Harvey and Jacob respectively. However, Damon soon became close with Sarah and the two embarked on a passionate affair behind Adam's back. The truth was eventually revealed months later when Adam found out about the affair; he stayed with Sarah but plotted revenge against Damon for compromising his happy marriage. Adam tracked down Damon's old acquaintance Niall Grainger and told him about where Damon was in order to 'help' Niall seek out Damon for his debt. When Damon found out what Adam had done, he flet the street for his own safety.
On New Year's Day 2024, however, Damon returned to the street and reunited with Sarah in an attempt to reconcile with her. He is then shocked when Sarah reveals to have gotten pregnant after their affair and that Damon was the child's father instead of Adam, but then Damon is left horrified when Sarah explains that she suffered a miscarriage and lost the baby not long after the parentary was disclosed. Outraged by what had happened during his absence, Damon arranges for Adam to be kidnapped and plans to kill him - only to instead let him live as part of his plan to get revenge on Adam over their feud with each other. The next day, Damon is summoned by Harvey for a prison visit and is told to do a robbery; Damon refuses and walks out on Harvey before later being confronted by Adam, who vows to get him out of the street again.
