Detective Dan Foster also known as The Southern Slasher is the overarching antagonist of the Charlotte Stone novel series, appearing in the final novel "The Last Time I Saw Her". Foster is a rapist and murderer of women in the hopes of framing Rick Hughes, only to do so to his identical twin, Michael Garland.
Biography[]
Foster was a police detective for the Mariposa PD and a serial killer and rapist of women motivated by nothing but rejection. After killing six women, he tried to pick up Candace Hartnell at a bar, only for her to go home with Michael. Foster was furious, in part because Michael was on a Special Ops mission in Afghanistan with Foster's brother Dean, who died in the operation. Foster killed Candace after Michael left, left Dean's military watch, which resembled Garland's, at the scene, and called for Garland to be arrested on a DUI. He planted Garland's DNA at the scene of every murder and successfully framed him. Garland was killed on death row by another inmate at the behest of the guards.
When Garland's watch was found, the investigation was reopened. In addition, Foster was on trial for killing his girlfriend. He had Garland's estranged twin brother, Hughes, who worked as a lawyer, represent him, hoping to frame him as well. When Foster tried to stab Dr. Charlotte "Charlie" Stone for her investigations, she grabbed her gun and stopped him in his tracks. The police then arrested him. When Charlie went back in time to save Michael, she warned him about Foster. In the alternate universe she returned to, Michael stayed in a hotel, reported Foster, and Foster was arrested and sent to death row.
