Dan Hollenbeck is the minor antagonist of The Mentalist TV-show. He is the false lover of Grace van Pelt, who wants to get revenge on Patrick Jane. He was played by Gene Farber.
Biography[]
One day, Patrick Jane receives a text message stating that a bomb has been delivered to the CBI and is set to explode. All CBI employees are immediately evacuated. Patrick Jane and Teresa Lisbon, meanwhile, are looking for the bomb. They find a large van with a tied-up man in it. "You're Next" is written on his forehead (apparently addressed to Patrick Jane). Patrick Jane tries to save the man, but the bomb in the car explodes. The man dies and Patrick loses his sight. Teresa sends him to the hospital. However, he soon returns to work. Meanwhile, the identity of the dead man has been established. He is a broker named James Medina. Interrogating his wife does not shed any light, since she does not know who could have done this to her husband. Patrick, meanwhile, is looking for a connection between James and himself (after all, it was not for nothing that the text message was sent to him, which means that the inscription "You're Next" was also intended for Patrick). The organization where James worked claims that he fired a lot of people. Patrick is looking for a connection between them and his former clients. Meanwhile, Grace Van Pelt, one of Patrick's colleagues, brags about having a new lover. His name is Dan Hollenbeck. Patrick and Rigsby ask her to introduce them to him. She brings him to the CBI. Suddenly, he attacks Rigsby and locks him in a closet. Then, he makes it clear to Patrick that he killed James and now wants to kill Patrick. Dan threatens Patrick that he will kill Van Pelt too. At that moment, Van Pelt receives a call from Teresa. She learned that James once fired an employee named Paul Kroeger. Paul was cheating on his wife, and Patrick told her about it. Paul and his wife had a son, and the son's name was none other than Dan Hollenbeck, which Teresa tells Van Pelt. Realizing that she and Patrick are in danger, Van Pelt attempts to subdue Dan, but he handcuffs her hands and leads her and Patrick out of the building. Patrick and Grace try to escape, but Dan corners them in a dead end. At the last moment, he is killed by Teresa Lisbon.
Personality[]
Dan is clearly a sadist, as he clearly enjoyed putting a living person in a mined van and writing "You're Next" on the person's forehead (this was intended for Patrick). Later, he almost killed Patrick in a public place (at the police station) and several police officers who tried to stop him. And all this only because Patrick once revealed to Dan's mother that her husband (Dan's father) was unfaithful to her (although she already suspected it), and James Medina, who was killed by Dan, fired Dan's father from his job. Nevertheless, Dan is genuinely attached to his parents.
