Dane is the main protagonist of the 2010 horror film The Final. He is a student that was bullied relentlessly by others along with his friends at school, and along with his miserable home life, almost lead to him taking his life out of despair. But Dane feels like he can't leave the world without making his bullies suffer, so he and his friends all orchestrate a party at Dane's house with the intention of giving everyone who attended it a fate worse than death before they all commit suicide to escape their awful lives. Despite dying, Dane succeeded in his goal and all of his bullies are either traumatized, crippled or dead as a result of his horrifying scheme.
He was portrayed by Marc Donato.
Biography[]
Dane was a boy who was bullied every day in his school, along with his friends despite. Dane also had an awful home life along with this, to the point where he almost took his own life with a gun to escape the torment, but after deciding he was tired of being bullied and rejected, Dane planned a party at his house where almost every student of the school would go, including the bullies and decides to take the opportunity to give his bullies fates worse than death as revenge, while forcing the innocent ones to watch as punishment for allowing it to happen.
Over the course of days or weeks, Dane and his friends choose costumes, guns, bear traps and other equipment that they will use to torture their bullies with, eventually deciding they will send out anonymous invitations to a party of Dane's house, where they will then drug the alcohol that will be served at the party before chaining everyone together, taking their mobile phones and car keys and then making sure they have all the torture equipment ready by the time everyone wakes up. Before going through with their plan, the group all agree to a suicide pact once the tortures have run their course and pray that their suffering will be over by the end of the night.
Eventually, all of the drugged students wake up and before the tortures began for real, Dane has one of his friends torture a student named Miles with a cattle gun by shooting him in the cheek and knee with it after said student mocked them and believed the situation to just be a prank. The student is then taken to the "torture room" where all the tortured students are placed after they have had their turn. He subsequently tricks a bully named Tommy into thinking he was letting him escape and reveals that he had been cheating on his girlfriend Nadia with another bully named Heather, but it was all just a trap made by Dane so he would get caught in a bear trap and be brought back to the area by the triplets helping out the outcasts anyway. Tommy is brought back by the triplets subsequently and is locked in the torture room.
The tortures then begin and the outcasts decide to start with torturing a bully named Bernard by stabbing him in the shoulder with a knife and paralyzing him with a liquid that renders him unable to move but still feel pain. Dane then has another one of the outcasts named Emily stick pins inside of Bernard to torture him before taking him to the torture room after it is finished with him continuing to convulse in pain.
His friend Ravi eventually gives Kurtis a key to help him escape after not wanting an innocent person to suffer but Dane become enraged and he shoots at Kurtis for trying to escape but Ravi tells him not to as Kurtis stood up for them and didn't bully them. Enraged by this, he kills Ravi by driving a knife through his chest. This single action would be his downfall, as his friends would realize that Dane is no longer the same friend they used to know and now only cared about getting revenge no matter the cost, justifying it by saying that no one is free from the consequences of their actions. After this, Dane has Emily rub a corrosive compound over Heathers face which is designed to slowly and painfully eat at her flesh with the purpose of "making her as ugly on the outside as she is on the inside".
The tortures then continue for a while with Dane wanting to test if a bully named Bradley will hurt someone else to save his own life, telling Bradley that if he cuts off a bully named Bridget's fingers, he will be safe but if he doesn't, he will be tortured instead. Bradley, despite Bridget refusing to cut his fingers off previously, cowardly goes through with it and cuts off her fingers, with Dane feeling proud of the fact he knew that Bradley would hurt another person to save his own life. The group then has Bridget decide if she wants to torture Bradley by cutting his fingers off. When she can't do it, Dane tells Emily to give her motivation by rubbing the corrosive compound on her face, saying that if he cuts Bradley's fingers off, the compound will be removed but if she doesn't, the compound will slowly burn the skin off her face. Bridget still doesn't go through with it and then convulses violently due to the sheer pain from the compound.
Dane eventually tortures Bradley again by acting faux affable towards him to mess with his head due to finding Bradley's anxiety amusing and monologuing that he repeatedly tried to think of a fitting punishment for Bradley then he eventually thought of one, mocking him that he will never get to play football or have sex ever again with Dane then proceeding to sever his spinal cord with a knife, permanently paralyzing him.
A bully named Riggs then insults the outcasts, so Dane decides that despite originally intending to not kill Riggs, he should be their next victim and orders the outcasts to prepare to cut his tongue off. However, Kurtis arrives with a gun and tells Dane to stop, but Dane tells Kurtis to stay out of it. Kurtis doesn't listen and kills another outcast named Andy after Dane tries to force him and Jack to cut Riggs tongue off. Dane then takes the opportunity to shoot Kurtis and tries to finish him off, but Emily kills Dane with a head shot, finally having enough of Dane hurting his friends.
Despite dying and having seen the orchestration as just an act of senseless violence by the news, he and his conspirators have succeeded in not just avenging their bullying but also making all the bullies become outcasts just like them as the bullies are scarred for life one way or another, with Kelly deciding to take her life out of the sheer trauma caused by the incident and Heather and Bridget being seen as freaks due to the disfiguration on their faces.
Personality[]
Dane was previously a nice kid that cared about his friends, but years of abuse from both his bullies and his horrible home life warped him into a monstrous human being that had no morals, going as far as to even kill Ravi just because he didn't want Dane to murder Kurtis who was actually a friend to them. Dane was so obsessed with getting revenge against his bullies that despite originally not wanting to hurt Riggs due to Riggs giving him a ride home from school when it was raining one time, he ordered the outcasts to cut Riggs' tongue off just for insulting them and then made a second attempt on Kurtis' life when Kurtis came to save everyone from Dane's operation.
Despite being seen as a loser, Dane was a capable leader and had enough charisma to not only convince all his friends to go along with his plan, but also give convincing speeches to everyone at his party to think about how their actions have lead to the situation they are in and how they managed to push the outcasts to want to act out their revenge in such a cruel way. He was also capable of being intimidating, successfully traumatizing and scaring all of his bullies with the scheme and it even being heavily implied that Kelly committed suicide due to the horror she was forced to experience, plus he commanded his friends through fear after being ruthless enough to murder Ravi in cold blood for doing the morally correct thing.
