"Daniel" is the main antagonist of the 2019 film Daniel Isn't Real.

He's a demonic entity who pretends to be Luke Nightingale's imaginary friend. He later masquerades as Luke's schizophrenic identity, but he's later revealed to be a demonic force who has existed for years.

He was played by Miles Robbins and Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Personality[]

Daniel is a manipulative, cunning, charismatic and intelligent being. He actively manipulates and uses people for it's own gain, seeking to possess their victim and take over their body. He is also quite delusional as he believes that he's helping his victims despite his nature to use their bodies for nefarious needs.

While he seems to care about the people he encounters (e.g. him actively trying to make Luke confident), this is contradicted by his goal of possessing Luke and the people he encounters once leaving the body of his host. He is also shown to be aggressive when threatened as, in the final fight, he manages to beat Luke with a broomstick to a pulp and is only stopped after Luke decides to commit suicide to stop him. This aggressiveness is briefly shown in the end as he transform back to his true form.

Biography[]

The entity that would be named "Daniel" was a demonic presence that came from Hell. Shown from the drawings and writings of a demon, presumably Daniel, consuming corpses, its assumed he was once a demon tasked to torture damned souls for Lucifer. Eventually, at some point, he would late emerge to possess the bodies of people, though the reasoning is unknown, its implied it's to live as a human.

Daniel Isn't Here[]

After using John Thigpen's body to commit a massacre in a coffee shop, he is gunned down by police off-screen and immediately confronts a young Luke, who arrived at the scene. He begins to spend time with a young Luke, managing to play with him while making him to certain acts such as accidentally poising Luke's mother.

Years later, an older Luke struggles with his problems involving Daniel and his mentally ill mother, who had increasingly gotten worst over the years. After Luke unlocks an old playhouse, he releases Daniel. Daniel, in turn, actively manipulates Luke over time and makes him commit acts such as making him have sex with multiple women and attacks his roommate. He increasing becomes unstable and finds a paper of the shootout, making him find John's father, Percy, revealing his same issues Luke is facing.

Luke tries to find help from his therapist, Dr. Braun, however he becomes fully possessed and kills his doctor. Possessed, Daniel actively tried to murder Cassie, Luke's crush. However, Luke manages to break free and fight against Daniel before committing suicide, preventing Daniel from succeeding his plan. Angered, Daniel turns to his true form and leaps from his consciousness.
