Danny Baldwin is a fictional character and major protagonist of the ITV British soap opera Coronation Street.

He was portrayed by Bradley Walsh, who is best known for being the host of a television game show called "The Chase".

Biography[]

Danny Baldwin first came to Coronation Street in 2004 as the apparent nephew of local businessman Mike Baldwin, who has requested Danny to co-manage his business: The Underworld Factory. However, it was soon revealed that Danny was actually Mike's son and the two formed a close relationship. During that time, Danny befriended many residents with his immense charism; one such resident was Les Battersby after they nearly drove into each other, and another was mechanic Tommy Harris when the latter mistakenly assumed that Danny was sleeping with his wife Angelica - also one of Mike's mechanists.

In 2005, Danny's attempt to reconcile with his estranged son Jamie appears to work until he has an affair with Jamie's girlfriend Leanne Battersby whilst also being married to Jamie's stepmother Frankie. This was eventually exposed when Danny's ex-wife and Jamie's mother, Carol, confronted them about it and forced the pair to tell Jamie and Frankie the truth. That same year, Danny was involved to the wedding of barmaid Shelly Unwin and her controlling fiance Charlie Stubbs. The wedding ended with Shelly jilting Charlie, who thereupon confronted her and pushed her mother Bev aside when she tried to stop him; Danny thereafter rushed over to Bev's aid and the rest of the street celebrated Shelly standing up to her tormenter.

In 2006, Danny learned that Mike was suffering from Alzheimer's disease. He sought an opportunity to extract the majority share of Mike's assets and managed to succeed in getting power of attorney over Mike by using his father's illness to his advantage. However, Danny was saddened when Mike eventually died in the arms of his archenemy Ken Barlow in April 2006. At his will reading, Danny recieves the majority share of Mike's business and assets. This started a feud with his half-brother, Adam Barlow, when the latter and Danny's family suspect that Danny tricked Mike into giving him everything. Following Mike's funeral, Danny continues to clash with his family and soon he learns that Jamie and Frankie have begun an incestuous relationship behind his back.

Eventually, Danny leaves the street after a final confronation with Jamie in which they fight and Danny urges Jamie to kill him by shoving him off a bridge. Jamie doesn't go through with it and begs his father to stay, but Danny leaves Weatherfield on New Year's Eve 2006.
