Daniel Richard "Danny" McBride is the secondary antagonist of the 2013 apocalyptic horror black comedy film This Is the End, the film adaptation of the 2007 short film Jay and Seth Versus the Apocalypse.
Unlike his real-life counterpart, the movie version of Danny McBride is depicted as a selfish, immature, childish, homicidal and idiotic person who cares about nothing but himself and uses up food and water that the rest of the boys is carefully trying to ration. Although one of the film's main protagonists due to his friendship with Jay Baruchel and Seth Rogen, he becomes an antagonist in the film's climax when James Franco kicks him out, leading to Danny becoming the latter's archenemy in the process.
He was portrayed by himself, who also played Boss Wolf in Kung Fu Panda 2 and Sonny in Arizona.
Biography[]
Danny comes to James Franco's house without being invited. He falls unconscious from drinking lots of alcohol in Franco's bathtub, but failed to notice that an apocalypse was happening on Earth and Jay, Seth, Jonah and Craig became forced to stay with Franco at his house to stay alive, with each agreeing to preserve their limited food supply as much as possible.
Danny then takes out Franco's food to make breakfast for himself without permission and when all of the five celebrities were sleeping. Danny used up almost all the food they had left such as eggs, cereal and bacon to make a huge all-you-can-eat for himself. James quickly objects to Danny using up most of their food without asking them.
Later, Danny started using up much of their limited water supply complaining that he deserves it since he's more thirsty and weighs more. Franco objects to being patient with Danny any longer, complaining that patience was a mistake since Danny has an overeating habit and that he saw him visibly gain weight while they were all hiding in Franco's house. After the group finally has enough, they kick him out of James Franco's house. McBride storms out of the house without hesitation.
Later, the surviving characters run into Danny again, who has become the leader of a gang of cannibals with Channing Tatum as his sex slave/pet. James Franco fights off the gang and tries to get raptured which seems to work, but God probably knew what Franco was doing and was testing him to see if he truly changed. Which is why Franco gloating to Danny was all it took to deny James his ticket, as to God this was evidence that, no, he did not change. James panicks and desperately apologizes, but Danny mocks him for being "petty, Tom Petty". He than, without warning, takes a huge chunk out James's face, which the other cannibals take as their que to start eating him.
As they do, Danny orders the still remaining ones to chase after Seth and Jay, but fortunately the two escape, and eventually get raptured into Heaven themselves, leaving Danny and his gang to presumably perish as Satan and his demons continue to lay waste on Earth.
Personality[]
Unlike his real-life counterpart, the movie version of Danny McBride is portrayed as a self-righteous, immature, egotistical, rude, obnoxious, selfish, cocky, uncaring, childish, foulmouthed, remorseless, basically assholic individual who only cares about himself and has the mind of a child. He crashed James Franco's party without being invited and drank all of the beers in his bathtub until he was passed out, and while the rest of the people were sleeping, he prepared breakfast and wasted all of the bottled water just to drink and wash his body, also using the food all for himself by using the group's food they organized for rations.
It was also noted by James Franco that Danny gained weight while he was there for real, further proving this point. He masturbates all over Franco's house with a defiant attitude, and when they are having dinner, he serves himself a second glass of water without permission, even though the group all agreed to only have one glass of water so they can save the rest of it for later.
He quarrels it's because of his weight that he needs more, but when they still deny him, he selfishly chugs all of the water and ruins it for his friends simply out of spite. It gets to the point that the group decide to kick him out because of his behavior and actions. When he realizes this, Danny plays victim and gives a sob story about nobody liking him.. Feeling pity, James gives Danny his prop gun so Danny can protect himself with it. But proving he really is as terrible as they they orginally thought, Danny almost immediately uses it shoots everybody, without knowing it was a prop gun, meaning he really did intend to murder them just for kickingh him out.
He than tries to play victim when realizing James gave him a fake gun, but the others immediately say he doesn't get to, as he just tried to shoot them. Instead of apologizing, Danny calls them all fake and self-righteous.
Interestingly, it appears that out of all of the people he was with, he held the least resentment toward Craig. This can be seen when he does not shoot Craig, instead opting to shoot Seth twice, and when he insults everybody, he just states he was very disappointed in Craig, not going beyond that in comparison to everybody else.

Trivia[]
- Danny eating James Franco because he became a cannibal is ironically how Franco said he wanted his character Saul to die in the sequel Pineapple Express 2.
