Dantrag Baenre is the minor antagonist in The Legend of Drizzt, serving as a major antagonist of Legacy of the Drow. He was the son of Yvonnel Baenre and the second boy of House Baenre, the most powerful house in the drow city of Menzoberranzan. As Weapons Master, he was widely considered the greatest fighter in the city, with the exception of the Weapons Master of House Do'Urden Zaknafein. Because of this, he had a rivalry Zak that later extended to an obsession with killing his legendary renegade son Drizzt. He was the father of Tiago Baenre and the temporary wielder of Khazid'hea.
Appearance[]
Like most drow, Dantrag had ebony skin and long white hair that he wore in ponytail. He was unusually tall and muscular, with unusually intense red eyes.
Personality[]
Dantrag's defining trait was pride in his fighting skills. He aspired to no achievement greater that proving that he was better than all others and didn't care about rising in his city's hierarchy. Dantrag refused to attack an unarmed opponent or murder someone without a fair fight. However, this was less out of honor and more out of the desire to prove that he was the best. As could be expected, Dantrag took any insult to his pride extremely seriously.
Biography[]
Dantrag was the second son of Yvonnel Baenre, being the younger brother of Gromph Baenre. During his youth he became renowned around the city as a great swordman. The only one who could rival him was Zknafein of House Do'Urden, but he was killed before the two of them could test their skills against eachother.
At some point Dantrag began using the demonic sentient sword Khazid'hea, which improved his skills even further. He also trained his younger brother Berg'inyon Baenre.
Decades after Zaknafein's death, Matron Baenre declared that she would unite Menzoberranzan and invade the dwarven city of Mithral Hall. This excited Dantrag, because that was where Zaknafein's renegade son Drizzt Do'Urden was apparently hiding out, and he hoped to make up to failing to best Zaknafein by besting his legendary son. However, his hopes were crushed when Drizzt was captured by Matron Baenre, who planned to torture him to death. The hopes were revived when Drizzt escaped, and Dantrag confronted him. The two fought for a long time, with Drizzt ultimately kill Dantrag.
Power and Abilities[]
Dantrag was an incredibly skilled sword fighter, being one of the physically strongest drow in the city. His skill was enhanced by his magical sword Kazid'hea, and his speed was enhanced by magical bracer he wore on his hands.
Trivia[]
- Dantrag's son Tiago would later follow in his father's footsteps and also attempt to kill Drizzt Do'Urden.
