Darío Guerra is the main antagonist of the Netflix series Dark Desire.

He is an attractive law student and part-time mechanic who starts an affair with prestigious lawyer and university professor, Alma Solares, whom he begins stalking after she breaks up with him.

He is portrayed by Alejandro Speitzer in his first villainous role.

Biography[]

Before the Series[]

Darío came from a poor background, his father Antonio owned a mechanical workshop while his mother Lucinda was mostly a housewife. His uncle Alberto, who was a wealthy lawyer, had a son of Darío's namesake and died of a heart attack, provided his nephew with the economical resources to afford his school and college studies. He attended college studying Law while working part-time at the same store inherited to him. Darío also had a traumatic troubled childhood when his father was supposedly found guilty for the rape and murder of a 5-year-old girl by the name of Leslie Delgado. When both his son and wife were reluctant to believe his pleads of innocence, Antonio became agitated, snatching a gun from a cop and aiming it at him, though he ultimately used it to commit suicide. Later on, during his path to adulthood, had his mother admitted to a retirement home due to a schizophrenia-like illness when she was haunted by visions of her accidentally drowning Darío as a baby while bathing him. Fueled with hatred, Darío decided to take action and avenge his father, deciding to target Brenda Castillo, the woman who pointed fingers at Antonio's alleged crime, but changed his mind and decided to get close to Alma Solares instead, a law professor and the wife of Leonardo Solares, the man responsible for his father's unfair arrest in the first place, as the rape case was the catalyst of events that led to his promotion as the well-known judge in town, also teaming up with Esteban, who was also envious of his brother's success.

Season 1[]

Darío is first seen at a party attended by Alma and her best friend Brenda, to blow off some steam after Alma suspects that Leonardo might be cheating on her and Brenda had gone through the end of her loveless marriage. He greets Alma and charms her with his charismatic personality, before being interrupted by Brenda, who claims to have seen him before, which Darío denies. After Brenda leaves to hook up with someone, Alma is about to leave the party but finds her car keys are missing. Darío shows up and gives them back to her. They then leave the party and have sex at Brenda's house.

Hoping to never see him again, this is proven wrong when Darío starts being present more often in Alma's life. Alma is shocked to find out that Darío is a student in the seminar she teaches. Although Darío is sure that they've made love, Alma refutes this stating they only have had sex. However, the more Alma tries to avoid Darío, the more he starts getting obssessed with her, even to the point of genuinely falling in love with her. Alma repeatedly tries to end things with Darío, albeit vainly as temptation starts ruling her life and derailing it at the same time. And if that weren't enough, after Alma breaks the news to Esteban, Alma is shocked to find out that their meeting wasn't random, but for a purpose: to ruin Leonardo.

The origins of Darío's justice-driven mission (shown above) are the clear reason why he keeps pursuing Alma, understanding yet heavily questionable in terms of moral of authority. In addition, Darío starts seeing Zoe, Alma's rebellious daughter, at the same time using a fake username, but also manipulates her. She shows sympathy for Darío when he tells her about his father's suicide (without the explicit circumstances), but after catching both him and Alma kissing (although was trying to get him off of her), because she tracked the username's location to a parking lot, Zoe angrily snaps at both of them for trying to screw Leonardo up, although Zoe and Alma later make up. Alma accuses Darío of murdering Brenda as he was the last person who visited her, but he denies it, and is later confirmed that Brenda actually commited suicide by cutting her wrists in a bathtub. Due to his love for Alma, Darío breaks his deal with Esteban, who in response has him presumably killed through arson inside his grandfather's old factory, though not before recording a tearful farewell video for Alma and the factory explodes. However, Darío is revealed to be still alive as he had convinced Esteban to spare his life because he needs him, so Darío faked his death while Esteban killed El Padrino instead. also involved in the rape case, by strapping a dynamite bomb on him. Meeting again, Esteban tells Darío that he should be grateful for his help in wanting to clean his father's name and ruin Leonardo, and that without him he's nothing, only to be cut off by Darío who states that things are now going to be done his way, meaning that the roles have changed and he is Esteban's new boss.

Season 2[]

Darío seems to have moved on from his obsession of Alma, now happily dating a woman named Julieta Lazcano, engaged to her and intending to marry her. However, his life is turned around when Alma, who is also struggling to get over her obssession, suddenly returns to the young man's life. When one of the wedding invitations mysteriously reaches Alma's doorstep, she intends to warn Julieta that Darío is not the good-hearted man he seems to be, despite her therapists's objections and instructions of maintaining zero contact with Darío. Alma warns Julieta anyway while cornerning her in an elevator; Julieta doesn't believe her, but Alma gives Julieta her card to contact her, stating she would regret not doing so, before they are caught by Darío, who calls Alma out for "stalking" his future wife. They hide in a laundry room and get into an argument over Darío's inheritance and faking his death, but it suddenly turns to sex and they sleep together. Darío receives a message about Julieta and hurries out of the hotel room, but he doesn't tell her. To his shock and sadness, Julieta is found dead near the hotel entrance, opening an investigation that implicates him and Alma as prime suspects. Alma confirms she is innocent in Julieta's murder, while Darío claims that his identity is being robbed by a doppelganger of his when a video of supposedly him proves otherwise, as well as another of Alma's conversation with Julieta in the elevator; Alma believes him and sticks with him to find the doppelganger, who crosses the street while Alma is driving and calls out his name but is ignored, then showing at her house to attack her. Íñigo, who is Julieta's father, is also growing suspicious of Darío, but pretends to be on his side to find more leads.

However, more secrets of Darío's dark past start showing. After his father Antonio's suicide over his alleged rape and murder of Leslie Delgado, Darío's uncle Alberto and his wife Lys Antoine, took him in, but Darío, aged 18, had been having an affair with Lys multiple times behind Alberto's back. The day of his birthday, they were caught by Alberto making out. Enraged, Alberto started chasing Darío and held him at gunpoint, calling him out for taking advantage of his hospitality just to screw his wife, who suddenly shows up and shoots him herself. Lys later killed him while medicated to be with Darío and intended for them to move to Paris in order to start a new life together. However, Darío abandoned her at the last minute, after being warned by Alberto about what she is capable of, also leaving her pregnant with their child, which she later aborted. Later on, the truth about Julieta's murder eventually comes out: Lys, posing as Julieta's dressmaker, was the one who had sent both the invitation to Alma's house and the video of her and Darío having sex to Julieta in order to call off the wedding as revenge. However, it wasn't Lys nor Darío's doppelganger who killed Julieta, but Darío himself. Alma found out about this beforehand, realizing that Darío lied all along about the doppelganger and that he had made everything up so that his inheritance wouldn't be taken away. When Julieta started cursing Darío for his actions and threatened to report him to the police, Darío, in a fit of rage, threw her off the hotel top floor's roof, although Darío refuses to admit it. He is trapped by Alma and Esteban, who has turned on him, into confessing his actions, ending with Darío being shot and finally arrested for all of his crimes. He is last seen in handcuffs while bedridden at a hospital while looking at a heart-shaped red balloon, with another following suit giving him the middle finger, thus ending his reign of terror once and for all.
