Villain Overview

The Dark Dragon is the major antagonist of the Disney Channel animated series American Dragon Jake Long. He is a power-hungry and villainous dragon who attempts to wipe out humanity and any other mythical creature who gets in his way.

He was voiced by Clancy Brown, who also played Mr. Krabs in SpongeBob SquarePants, Rahzar in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Lex Luthor in both Superman: The Animated Series and Justice League.

Prior to American Dragon: Jake Long

In 1975, The Dark Dragon battled Lao Shi, the Chinese Dragon, but was defeated by him. This made Lao Shi the first dragon to ever defeat The Dark Dragon.

Role in the series

The Dark Dragon appeared twice in the first season, attempting to offer a deal to Lao Shi's grandson, Jake Long, in whom he seems to have an interest. It is a chance to join him in conquering the universe. But Jake refuses and defeats him with help from the Australian Dragon, Fred Nerk.

He is shown to be in league with Councillor Chang, a member of the Dragon Council and the one responsible for his battle with Lao Shi in 1975.

The Dark Dragon reappears in the second season when he kidnaps Lao Shi, to blackmail him into joining him and his minions. However, Jake, with help from friends and family, defeat him, and he is seemingly killed when he gets crushed by rocks. However, he survives the crash, and he grabs Jake with his tail, hoping to take Jake with him through the portal. In the process, Rose cuts the tip off the Dark Dragon's tail, which gives Jake and Rose the chance to escape. The Dark Dragon, however, was not so lucky and remains trapped in another dimension for one-thousand years.

  • Dark Dragon was declared the most evil being in the Magical World while The Huntsman was declared number #4.
    • Despite this, the Dark Dragon has an excuse for his behavior as opposed to the Huntsman, as the magical creatures were forced into hiding by the humans.
    • He resembles that of Maleficent's dragon form from Disney's Sleeping Beauty, as well as the Prince Aragon's dragon form from Danny Phantom.
