The Dark Mobs are supporting antagonists in Season 3 of the AvM Shorts, serving as major antagonists in "The Raid", cameo characters in "Note Block Universe", and the secondary antagonists of the season finale, "The King".

Minions of King Orange, they are dark, evil versions of the various Hostile Mobs that his enemies have befriended during their war against him.

History[]

"The Raid"[]

King Orange, now with two Minecraft Game Icons, uses the dark one to create dark versions of the Warden, Endie, Skellington and Spider. They prove themselves to be equal to the originals in terms of strength, but are quickly dealt with when Red uses the Netherite-powered staff to kill them. King Orange just creates more of them, but they are all killed when Yellow and Blue enter the Nether with an enormous Titan Ravager, who crushes the Dark Spider and Dark Warden; Meanwhile, Dark Skellington is shot to death by Blue while Dark Endie falls into the lava. When seeing his new enemy, King Orange creates another set of Dark Mobs before confronting the Ravager in combat himself. He creates a Dark Ravager to combat the normal one, but kills it (by accident or on purpose, that's unknown). In the following battle, he sends more Dark Mobs after the heroes, but they're all slaughtered.

Shortly afterwards, King Orange manages to get his hands on the staff that he needs to complete his plan. He creates two Dark Titan Ravagers that crush the normal one and leave him unable to move. He also spawns dozens of other Dark Mobs to fight the rest of the heroes: A Dark Endie is chocking the real Endie, Skellington and Blue try to fight off a Dark Warden, the Warden and the Second Coming are attacked by two Dark Wardens at once, while Spider is surrounded by three Dark Mobs; One Warden, one Endie, and one himself. The Dark Warden that showed hostility towards Spider runs off to confront Yellow instead, pinning him against the Titan Ravager's leg while two Dark Skellingtons and one Dark Spider stand next to him. Meanwhile, King Orange merges both Game Icons into one, puts the new Double Game Icon onto his staff and fires off a black hole.

"Note Block Universe"[]

They make a very minor cameo at the final scene where Purple smacks King Orange, with some of the Dark Mobs being seen when the camera cuts to Yellow and the Second Coming.

"The King"[]

Purple uses the power of the staff to demolish all Dark Mobs except four: Two Dark Wardens, which are killed by the real Warden, a Dark Ravager which is killed by the real Ravager, and a Dark Endie who lays knocked out on the floor and dies off-screen given how he's not seen again.

A few minutes later, King Orange gets his staff back and unleashes an Abomination, which is a gigantic dark hybrid of the Titan Ravager and Warden. When Herobrine enters the battle, he fires a Steve clone from his hand to destroy the Ravager head instantly before spawning more clones that use their swords to finish off the giant. Once Herobrine possesses Red and creates a giant obsidian golem, King Orange sends another Abomination to fight him before killing it with a giant netherite pitchfork. This was the last Dark Mob to be spawned, thus marking their end as a short-lived species.

Trivia[]

  • The Dark Mobs are extremely weak when having to fight someone who wields a Netherite-powered staff, with even the Warden going down in one hit. Otherwise, though, they are as strong as their original versions, which can be seen when a Dark Warden is hit with several arrows by Blue and Skellington, without taking damage.
  • During "The Raid", when the Titan Ravager first arrives, King Orange spawns Dark Mobs of the four "normal" mobs to distract the heroes while he fights the titan. While the Dark Warden and Dark Spider are killed by Red and Blue respectively, we never see what happened to Dark Endie and Dark Skellington. It is most likely just a blooper as Blue was seen firing from his crossbow at the two without the bullets ever making contact, so it can be presumed they were meant to be killed by him. Another possibility is them being killed by Endie, Skellington and Spider off-screen as they were the only heroes that weren't battling King Orange at the time, although this wasn't confirmed either.
    • Similarly, once the Ravager first attacks King Orange, the viewer can briefly see the remaining heroes fighting the Dark Mobs on the right of the screen. During this, Dark Skellington is actually seen being killed by the Warden, despite the fact he later appears, alive and okay. It's possible this was just a blooper or King Orange briefly returned to create a second one off-screen, while Blue, Yellow and the Ravager were busy fighting the Dark Ravager.
  • The Dark Mobs are most likely supposed to serve as a parallel to the ViraBots, as both are a mindless hostile species created by the omnicidal stick figure villain of a major story arc that are tough to defeat. The difference is that the ViraBots were pivotal to the Dark Lord's omnicidal plan and he wanted them alive, are the secondary antagonists of their story arc, and were actually dangerous and treated seriously by even the most powerful heroes. Meanwhile, the Dark Mobs are nothing more than irrelevant cannon fodder that serve only to slow down King Orange's opponents, are supporting characters introduced at the end of their story arc, and are practically ignored by the heroes in favor of dealing with the most dangerous threat, being quickly and easily defeated. Fittingly, the ViraBots were defeated alongside the Dark Lord in an epic scene that showcased the Second Coming's full power, while the Dark Mobs were quickly and anticlimactically defeated by Purple halfway through their final episode before being finished off by Herobrine a few minutes afterwards, with King Orange's defeat/redemption happening a long time after the final Dark Mob died.
  • Some sounds used to make the Abomination's roar were taken from the Brachiosaurus seen in the Jurassic Park franchise.
