Dark Phoenix (Wolverine and the X-Men)

The Phoenix Force is a major antagonist in the 2009 animated series Wolverine and the X-Men. It is an ancient force that has been possessing telepaths since primordial times. It is the one responsible for the destruction of X-Mansion, the temporary disbanding of the X-Men and the decimation seen in the Days of Future Past timeline.

History[]

The Phoenix has been possessing telepaths ever since primordial times, but none of them have been able to contain its extreme power up until Jean Grey.

Sensing its power, Charles Xavier set up mental barriers in Jean's mind to contain the force and ensure it wouldn't activate uncontrollably. It worked for a significant amount of time up until the Hellfire Club attempted to extract the force from Jean and her resisting of the psychic attack. This struggle caused the Phoenix to activate and destroy X-Mansion in the process, temporarily disbanding the X-Men.

When Jean was in the hospital unable to even remember her own name, she accidentally activated the Phoenix as a result of a nurse witnessing her telekinetic abilities and sending the Mutant Response Division after her. The accidental activation of the Phoenix caused a mass psychic field that knocked part of New York's civilians unconscious and alerted Mister Sinister to her location. The Phoenix activated yet again when the X-Men were saving Jean and Cyclops from the Marauders.

The Hellfire Club take Jean and attempt to control the Phoenix Force despite Emma's many warnings that it would backfire. The Phoenix, under the influence of the Stepford Cuckoos, ravaged the sentinels and was set to go after Genosha before Emma absorbed and destroyed the Phoenix for good, preventing the Days of Future Past future from occurring.

In the Days of Future Past timeline, the Phoenix was responsible for the destruction around the world that caused the eventual rise of Master Mold and her sentinels due to the Stepford Cuckoos losing control over it.
