~ Priest Mamon |
Priest Mamon is the main antagonist of The Aku Realms storyline of The Battle Cats. He is an Aku sorcerer who wants to revive the Lord of Ruin Jagando and take over the world.
Personality[]
Mamon, unlike other enemies/animals in The Battle Cats, has actual dialogue, thus giving him defined personality and motives. He wishes to unite the Realms of Aku into one nation under his total control, in addition to expanding them to the mortal realms. In addition to his own strength and magic, he leads Aku armies to fight all those who dare oppose him. In addition to building Aku Altars to steal the life energy of all in his way, and he uses this stolen life energy for his own nefarious plans while he and his armies ruthlessly crush his now-weakened foes.
Biography[]
The research of the Empress has led to an open portal to the Realms of Aku. As the Battle Cats proceed to venture into this portal, They are met with a monologue from Mamon, where he reveals his plans to take over the Realms of Aku at all costs, including the revival of the powerful Lord of Ruin Jagando. He reveals that he has been going at this goal for 9 years. At this point, he doesn't view the incoming Cat Army as an immediate threat, especially not with armies of Aku warriors and Aku Altars to deal with them for the moment.
The Cat Army begins to slowly demolish more and more Aku altars to regain their former strength. Mamon was confronted at some point in Mount Aku, where he is presumably proceeding Jagando's revival. There, he shows his own battle prowess, wielding both powerful offensive magic and defensive magic. Though he was defeated, Mamon makes it away with the crystal of awakening in his possession.
Mamon is encountered much later. This time, though, he is not just elaborately dressed but also wields more powerful offensive and defensive magic, including not just increased stats but also a wider attack range and toxic magic. After he is defeated Mamon flees once again, revealing that the process of reviving and unleashing Jagando has already come to fruition. Jagando invades Mount Aku, where the Cat Army must defeat it and destroy the final Aku Altar. As Jagando falls to the Cat Army, he releases an egg from his mouth before being sealed into eternal slumber once again. Jagando Jr. was later raised by the cats, no longer destined as another lord of ruin.
At this point, Mamon lost everything. With his armies defeated, Jagando sealed away once more, failing to steal the egg before the cats, and his Aku Altars destroyed, his hegemonic hopes have been demolished for good. Completely demoralized and with barely anything left, he temporarily goes back to the mortal world and reveals that he has a family. He figures that he should spend time with his family if he can no longer take over the world as he previously fought so hard to accomplish. He decides that he can find happiness in a simpler life with his family. However, before he ends his monologue, Mamon swears revenge at the cats in their yet-to-be next encounter.
Trivia[]
- Mamon seems to be heavily inspired by Hargon from the Dragon Quest series in both appearance and motive. Both villains seek to take over the world by any means possible, going as far as unleasing a demonic god of destruction. In Mamon's case, this is Jagando, and in Hargon's case, this is Malroth.
- Mamon seems to be named after Mammon the patron demon of greed.
