Dark Rimuru, Dark Rimura and Dark Rimuro are minor antagonists in the Dark Matter trilogy of the Kirby franchise, serving as major antagonists of Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards.
They are a trio of Dark Matter siblings, consisting of two brothers and one sister, who took over the planet of Ripple Star, leaving one of its citizens, Ribbon, to escape, leading her to Planet Popstar.
Appearance[]
Dark Rimuru, Dark Rimura and Dark Rimuro resemble ordinary Dark Matters, but their bodies lack palpatations, and their eyes have concentric red and gold rings for irides. As with most of the Dark Matters, none of them have any limbs.
With the Waddle Dee under his control, Dark Rimuru gives him a horrid makeover, making the Waddle Dee indistinguishable from a Waddle Doo.
Dark Rimura gives Adeleine bigger, scary-looking crimson eyes with the latter under her control. These eyes are only seen in the cutscene where she possesses the latter.
When he possesses King Dedede, Dark Rimuro gives his host the ability to grow a projectile-launching eye and a mouth.
Biography[]
The trio first appears in a cloud taking over Ribbon's planet, Ripple Star. Ribbon is sent to take the crystal away from the planet when she warns the queen and escapes the planet, but is attacked by the trio, and sent flying to Planet Popstar, where she meets Kirby.
Kirby and Ribbon find a Waddle Dee, who picks up a crystal shard. Dark Rimuru possesses the Waddle Dee, turning it into a monster that resembles a Waddle Doo. Once Kirby defeats the Possessed Waddle Dee, Dark Rimuru flees, and Waddle Dee joins the crew.
Kirby, Ribbon, and Waddle Dee come across Adeleine, who picks up a crystal shard and gets possessed by Dark Rimura. Once Kirby defeats Adeleine, the latter joins the crew.
The crew comes to Dedede's castle, where Dark Rimuro brings the latter under his control. Kirby fights King Dedede, who has been possessed for the third time in the Dark Matter Trilogy. King Dedede turns back to his normal self and joins the crew after Dark Rimuro is exorcised.
Once 0² is defeated, the Dark Matter Cloud where the trio came from is destroyed, and Kirby and his friends are awarded.
Battle[]
Dark Rimuru[]
With the Waddle Dee under his control, Dark Rimuru attacks mainly by having his Waddle Dee puppet perform a headlong charge. Whenever he hits a wall, he will drop a star that can be used as ammunition against the Waddle Dee body that he is controlling. He can also attempt to tackle Kirby. After six hits to the Waddle Dee body, Dark Rimuru will be defeated, his Waddle Dee puppet bouncing towards the side of the screen.
Dark Rimura[]
Dark Rimura has a similar attack pattern to the boss Ado from Kirby's Dream Land 3 while she possesses Adeleine. The boss will first paint a few enemies which Kirby must defeat. Phase 2 begins after Kirby tears his way through these creatures. Dark Rimura will then recreate a boss from Kirby's Dream Land 2: the Ice Dragon, who goes down in three hits. The Ice Dragon attacks by charging, blowing frosty mist out of his mouth, and he can also summon a square of ice and send it flying or jumping high and stomping down. Once he destroys that by using the squares of ice, Kirby triggers the third phase of the battle. Here, Dark Rimura will summon a standard Dark Matter orb. It will create smaller Dark Matters that lack palpatations and charge around its arena. Kirby destroys that in three hits by sucking up the smaller Dark Matters with his vacuum breath and spitting it back at the boss. This sends Dark Rimura into a rage. She will leap from her spot, charging Kirby. Dark Rimura will run back and forth to try to hit Kirby, turning around if she hits a wall. Once Kirby hits Dark Rimura with his slide, Adeleine will be cleansed as she rolls towards the side of her arena.
Dark Rimuro[]
Dark Rimuro takes his battle pattern from Kirby's Dream Land 3 King Dedede with King Dedede under his control. During his first phase, Dark Rimuro takes the fight to the ground. One of his attacks has him make King Dedede try to inhale Kirby, with another being to try to stomp Kirby. This generates stars that can be sucked up and spat back. Dark Rimuro can also force his puppet to smash Kirby with a hammer, generating a star that provides ammunition.
Phase 2 begins after three hits. Dark Rimuro makes King Dedede float through the sky for this phase. He can attack by revealing his true eye and firing three projectiles from his pupil, or make a mouth appear on his puppet's belly to try to chew on Kirby. The projectiles from the former attack can be used as ammunition. Three more hits defeats Dark Rimuro so King Dedede can come back to his senses.
Trivia[]
- It is unknown what the fate of the siblings was after their encounter in Pop Star due to the game's dialogueless story, but since they weren't seen or referred to again after their respective boss fights, it is likely that they were either killed in the explosion caused when Kirby slayed 0² or are now left without a Dark Matter colony to return to since up until Kirby Star Allies, most people thought Dark Matter went extinct in the 100% completion ending of Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards.
- In the Japanese version, Dark Rimuru, Dark Rimura, and Dark Rimuro have an interpunct in their names separating "Dark" from the rest of their names; this is not done in the term "Dark Matter." Japanese sources also never refer to them as being related to Dark Matter.
