~ Dark Spyro in Crash Bandicoot: On the Run

Dark Spyro is a minor antagonist in The Legend of Spyro trilogy. He is Spyro's dark counterpart first introduced in The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night. He was accidentally created when Spyro fell into the Celestial Moons' lunar alignment during his battle with the Ape King, Gaul.

Personality[]

Unlike his good counterpart, Dark Spyro is the mindless, ruthless embodiment of Spyro's darkness. Initially during his battle with Gaul, Dark Spyro displayed the same cockiness and personality as Spyro (GBA version only) but as the battle went on, the Dark Aether he gained was steadily consuming his consciousness. This caused him to become a vessel of the Dark Aether element, willing to destroy anything that stands in his way, including those he swore to protect.

In Crash: On The Run, Dark Spyro is depicted as a cocky, vain and tyrannical dragon who seeks to rule over Crash Bandicoot's dimension. His personality, and appearance, are much more reminiscent to his Netflix counterpart of the Skylanders franchise.

Biography[]

The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night[]

During his fight with Gaul, Spyro fell into the beam generated by the Celestial Moons, which transformed him into a vile, black dragon. As Dark Spyro, he gained the advantage over Gaul, who then demanded that Dark Spyro finish him off. The dark dragon quietly hesitated, and Gaul laughed, calling Dark Spyro a coward. The Ape King then charged at Dark Spyro to deal the finishing blow, but the dark dragon responded by unleashing two streams of Dark Aether at the manacial Gaul, slowly turning him to stone, before destroying him with a Dark Aether fury blast.

With Gaul dead, Dark Spyro flew back to the upper floor into the lunar alignment and hovered before a dismayed Sparx and Cynder, consumed by the power of Dark Aether. As Cynder called out to him, Dark Spyro was about to turn on her and Sparx. Spyro was able to momentarily break free of the Dark Aether's influence long enough for Cynder to knock him out of the lunar alignment beam and restore him to normal.

The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon[]

When Spyro and Cynder lost Ignitus to the Belt of Fire, Spyro's grief transforms him back into Dark Spyro. He threatened to harm Cynder with levitating rocks and was willing to drag her into the wall of flames in a vain attempt to save Ignitus, refusing to believe his father figure had died. Despite this, Cynder manages to break Dark Spyro out of the dark influence, with Spyro accepting Ignitus' death, thus erasing Dark Spryo out of Spro's head for good.

Other Appearances[]

Crash: On The Run[]

In Crash: On The Run, N. Tropy was banished and left open a portal to the Dragon Realm, letting in the dastardly Dark Spyro and Gnasty Gnorc – who have since taken over three Spyro-themed lands. The much loved hero soon followed, but the portal to the Dragon Realm was broken in the process. It’s now up to Crash and Coco to defeat Dark Spyro and Gnasty Gnorc and help Spyro repair the Dragon Portal.
