“ | These are third-generation design. They are no longer suits. The human inside was the final weakness to be solved. They're droids. | „ |

Dark Troopers are supporting antagonists in the epic space opera franchise Star Wars, appearing as supporting antagonists in the 2019 streaming series The Mandalorian.
They were formally introduced in the 1995 video game Star Wars: Dark Forces and made several video game appearances, as part of Star Wars Legends.
Biography[]
The Dark Trooper program was a project undertaken by the Imperial Department of Military Research (IDMR), an organization that researched and developed military technology for the Galactic Empire ruled by Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine. Its objective was to create a new type of advanced armor for the soldiers of the Empire to wear, but was ultimately deemed a failure by the Joint Chiefs.
After the fall of the Empire, members of IDMR found service in an Imperial remnant led by Moff Gideon. The IDMR of Gideon's remnant developed a third-generation of Dark Troopers to serve as his enforcers. Unlike the previous generations, the third generations were battle droids that did not have a human pilot of any sort. Five years after the collapse of the Empire, the third-generation Dark Troopers were still experimental units and drained a lot of power when activated.
The Phase III Troopers were capable of operating within the vacuum of space, shrugging off consecutive blaster fire, and producing feats of incredible physical strength. A single third-generation Dark Trooper was able to fight toe-to-toe with a seasoned Mandalorian warrior.
The Mandalorian[]
Roughly five years after the fall of the Empire, approximately forty Dark Troopers were in the service of Moff Gideon and his Imperial remnant. However, the entirety of Gideon's platoon was destroyed by Jedi Master Luke Skywalker when he stormed the Moff's cruiser in search of the Force-sensitive infant Grogu.
