| ~ Beep-0, JEANIE, and Edge's reactions to Darkmess Edge |
Darkmess Edge is a minor antagonist in Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope. It's one of the last foes encountered at Cursa's stronghold before the battle with Cursa herself. It takes on the very likeness of Edge herself and presumably the physical manifestation of her early days as a Spark Hunter.
Personality[]
Unlike the real Edge, the Darkmess doppelganger is completely loyal to Cursa, but has no free will of its own and acts as a minion rather than a leader. However, Darkmess Edge does have some of Edge's mannerisms, such as her sinister chuckle and grin and makes similar sounds in the same manner, but its voice, while having a hint of Edge's voice in it, is noticeably much more otherworldly, as though the real Edge is being possessed by a demon. It does not have Edge's benevolent side. It is heavily implied that it is the embodiment of Edge's evil actions.
Biography[]
After Cursa possessed Rosalina while losing the Lumas and Rabbids, since then merged into Sparks, it creates its own army as well as the Spark Hunters, one of them being Edge, to seek out the Sparks, so it to absorb their energy to crush Rosalina's will. Edge would eventually betray Cursa and attempted to reform the Spark Hunters, but they turn on her in loyalty to their creator, resulting in Edge leaving them to join Mario and the heroes to save the Sparks. Due to her former affiliation and actively opposing Cursa, Edge avoids telling the heroes who she originally was out of fear that they would not believe her, and often tells them to mind their own business or deflects the conversation when asked about her connection with the Spark Hunters.
When the heroes arrive at Cursa's stronghold, they encounter two Darkmess Puddles that they have to deal with first before they face Cursa itself. The first one of the Darkmess Puddles contains Darkmess Bowser, that they must fight before dealing with the second Darkmess Puddle. After Darkmess Bowser's defeat, they, to Beep-0's shock, find Darkmess Edge awaiting them with a grin on its face and JEANIE states that to create a clone, it would need a DNA blueprint from the MegaBug or created one itself. The real Edge quickly becomes determined beyond reason and asserts that Cursa does not know what she is made of, and she will show it. After Darkmess Edge is defeated, it is soon revealed that Edge was created by Cursa and was the Spark Hunter leader and she explains that she has gained enough free will to see right through Cursa for what it was. Fortunately for Edge, they trusted her enough to believe her tale and comfort her that she is part of their family and doesn't need to keep secrets from them anymore.

Trivia[]
- Darkmess Edge is notable for having an impact on the real Edge in terms of her true origins and played a key role in revealing it after she continuously never told the heroes throughout a huge chunk of the game.
- It is heavily implied that it is the embodiment of Edge's evil actions and her early days as a Spark Hunter before she decided to quit he job and join Mario and his allies. This presumably shows that Edge is fighting her own evilness to fully redeem herself.
- The fight between Edge and her Darkmess clone may be the symbolism of the former confronting her inner demons of the person that she once was before she went rogue.
- Interestingly, the real Edge carries her Flying Blade with her right hand, while Darkmess Edge carries the Darkmess Blade with its left hand.
