"You may feel powerless now, but soon you will watch the fear in men's eyes. As captain of my Furies your fame will spread throughout the universe. You will see the fiercest warriors flee your presence. Armies brought to your knees. Entire nations crumble at the mention of your name. You will know power you would've never known on Earth. Never again will you be lost. From now on you will be at my side. Forever mine, forever Darkseid's."
~ Darkseid to Kara Zor-El, before brainwashing the latter.
"Fearless. Untapped power. It would have been a glorious life for you, captain of my honor guard. Instead, my Omega Beams will reduce you to ASHES!"
~ Darkseid to Supergirl, before engaging her in combat.

Darkseid is the ruler of Apokolips and an extremely deadly adversary of Superman, and Batman to a lesser extent, and the main antagonist of the 2010 film "Superman/Batman: Apocalypse". He's voiced by the late actor Andre Braugher who also played the villainous role of Marcus Chaplin in the ABC drama "Last Resort", as well as other minor villainous characters in various television series and films.

Biography[]

When it comes to his attention that another Kryptonian known as Kara Zor-El, Supergirl, could be a powerful ally under his control. He orders Granny Goodness and her Furies to find her, after Granny Goodness failed to make good on her promises with the last champion that was slain by the Furies in the gladiator pit.

On Earth, Darkseid immediately summons thousands upon thousands of Doomsday clones that attack Themyscira, keeping Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and the Amazons distracted while he personally kills the Harbinger Amazon girl named Lyla and his Furies kidnap Supergirl. Once she was brought before him on Apokolips, he proceeded to brainwash her into his slave.

When the Justice League members Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Big Barda arrived on Apokolips to rescue Kara Zor-El, Darkseid, who was waiting for them, had his armies attack them. Superman successfully manages to infiltrate Darkseid's palace while Wonder Woman and Barda enter the fighting arena, fighting Granny Goodness and the Female Furies. After a fight with Barda killing Stompa to save Wonder Woman, Granny and the other Furies are subdued. Separating himself from the others, Batman finds Darkseid's supply of Hell Spores, the source of the fire pits on Apokolips. Superman encounters Darkseid and is forced to battle the brainwashed Kara. Darkseid watches them fight, that is until Batman himself confronts Darkseid and informs him that he has activated the Hell Spores, which will destroy Apokolips. He issues Darkseid an ultimatum: free Kara and promise to leave her alone, and Batman will deactivate the Spores. Darkseid attacks Batman and holds him over lava, that is until he was impressed by the way an ordinary human like Batman would be willing to set off explosives, he then takes him back into his palace and releases Batman, telling him that he will make no move against Kara Zor-El. Superman defeats Kara, and Big Barda and Wonder Woman present Darkseid with the subdued Granny, whereupon Darkseid finally releases Kara, and the heroes leave Apokolips, bringing Kara back to Themyscira, much to Darkseid's disappointment.

However Darkseid, intent on getting revenge on Superman, he ultimately decides to head straight to Earth, where he secretly arrives on the Kent family's farm near the town of Smallville away from the rest of the Justice League. There he waited until the right moment where he then ambushes both Superman and takes Kara, just as they were about to meet his adoptive parents. While he had promised to leave Kara Zor-El alone, but not Superman or Earth. After Darkseid launches Superman into space, Kara engages Darkseid in a lengthy battle and manages to hold her own, but he eventually gains the upper hand and knocks her unconscious. Before Darkseid can leave, Superman returns to Earth and reengages him, but Darkseid still does not relent and again eventually overpowers and overwhelms Superman with his strength and the blast from his Omega Beams. Kara Zor-El quickly recovers and thinking quickly, she then uses Darkseid's Mother Box to send him into space, as Superman blasts Darkseid into the boom tube's forming vortex. While Superman anticipates Darkseid's eventual return, Kara Zor-El herself informs him that she changed the coordinates near an icy planet in the middle of nowhere, leaving him frozen in space, that is until someone thaws him out.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Super Strength: Darkseid is an extremely powerful god-like being hailing from planet Apokolips, who possesses an extreme degree of colossal super-strength. As shown numerous times throughout the series, Darkseid can maintain constant physical action with Kryptonians, as evidenced with Superman and Supergirl, as well as such, he can easily overpower Supergirl and Superman at the same time, proving that his strength surpasses theirs.
  • Flight: Darkseid can fly completely in any direction, it is powered by Darkseid's telekinesis rather than gravity.
  • Invulnerability: Darkseid is extremely resistant to all forms of physical, mental, as well as emotional and spiritual harm. He easily handles the full blast of heat vision by putting his hand around Superman's eyes. This blast took out thousands of Doomsday, but only made Darkseid smile. Darkseid took powerful blows from both Superman and Supergirl. He even gets his own omega beams blasted on him as Supergirl once knocked him down and let him get blasted by his own omega beams and threw every punch she had and that failed to even scratch Darkseid. It has been shown that he can be injured to some extent as when Superman went full out on Darkseid, he had a nosebleed as a result.
  • Immortality: As a god of Apokolips, Darkseid can live almost indefinitely, as he is immune to aging, withering, or degrading.
  • Accelerated Healing Factor: In the incredibly rare instance that Darkseid does get hurt, he can heal from any wound from minor to fatal instantaneously. He can heal from matter in an instant, making beating him physically truly impossible.
  • Omega Beams: Darkseid, at a mere though, can emit pulses of red energy from his eyes, as well as such, its potential proves catastrophic and devastating, often causing explosions and bursts of blinding light, the beams are strong enough to cause even Superman to bleed. This is impressive as Superman is virtually invulnerable. He used it at; such speed that the he literally sent Superman straight into the atmosphere in a few seconds or less. After Superman put a huge rock on him, Darkseid created a beam that send Superman flying, destroy the rock and shaking the ground.
  • Super Agility: Despite being a large, imposing heavyweight, Darkseid is immeasurably agile, after being uppercutted by Supergirl, Darkseid did a perfectly balanced flip over 50 feet with no effort, even though he is nearly nine feet tall.
  • Super Speed: Although rarely displayed, Darkseid can move much faster than Kryptonians, he can, react and maneuver faster than the healthiest and strongest human athlete who partakes in a daily exercise.
