Darok was a Romulan male introduced in the novel 'Star Trek: The Next Generation novel The Romulan Prize.

He was raised in a more traditional manner than many of his colleagues were, and feared the traditions that made the Romulans strong were being whittled away by a new generation of younger and more arrogant Romulans. As a young man he had faced a lesson in the dangers of arrogance when trying to hunt a dangerous creature called a syrinx. While he managed to take the syrinx, Darok underestimated the syrinx and the encounter nearly resulted in his death. Like many other Romulans, Darok believed that it was the Romulan people's destiny to rule the galaxy, and that all other races were inferior. He looked forward to the war that would put the other races in their proper places.

In 2368, Darok was the Praetor of the Romulan Star Empire, in effect the actual ruler of the Romulan Empire. Before becoming Praetor Darok had a military career in which he racked up a sizeable number of victories, and used those to springboard his way into politics. Rising through the ranks he eventually became Praetor.

During that time his ally's son Lord Kazanak - a starship designer - led a team to build the next generation of Romulan warbirds. Named the D'Kazanak-class, Darok hoped these new warbirds would counter the Federation Starfleet Galaxy-class and newer vessels.

Summoning the young commander Valak to a meeting he learned more about Valak's philosophy and how one had to study prey before trying to take it. Darok became convinced that with Valak's knowledge of humanity he would make a good commander for the prototype D'Kazanak-class ship, the IRW Syrinx. Naming Valak the commanding officer he sent him to investigate the world Hermeticus II, which he believed may have contained a secret Federation base.

Instead of the Syrinx returning to the Empire with proof of a Federation base and how the Syrinx could easily overpower the Federation, all that resulted was a group of Ambimorphs disguised as Romulans being rescued in a shuttlecraft, who reported the Syrinx had fatal flaws that resulted in its destruction at the hands of an old Constitution-class starship.

By 2374 Darok was no longer the Praetor, having been replaced by former Pro-Counsel Neral. It is unknown whether Darok had retired, was pushed out of office, or died by 2374.
