Darryl Keyes is the overarching antagonist of the TV series, 9-1-1: Lone Star. He is a serial killer of young women, particularly targeting mentally ill women.
He was portrayed by Adam O'Byrne.
Biography[]
Past[]
His parents divorced when he was young and his mother Trudie Keyes got primary custody, since his father wasn't interested in keeping him around. This rejection caused Darryl to lash out, to the point where he injured his hand with a substance that left a permanent burn scar on his hand. As an adult, Darryl seemingly moved past his issues and became a pharmacist and was on good terms with his coworkers and customers, ensuring every prescription was at the proper level.
Unknown to anyone, Darryl grew to become a serial rapist/killer and used his job to secretly pocket the drugs for his spree. Darryl targeted mostly mentally ill or vulnerable healthy women such as hitchhikers or drifters, taking advantage his plain appearance to make them drop their guard and testing the drugs on them for sadistic pleasure. Once he saw the drugs cause various reactions, he would assault and kill them in an abandoned house near his home. Darryl also constructed a tunnel in the closet of the rooms to head his mother's home should the women escape and get the law on his trail. His mother was aware of his actions and was complying participant by offering him safety.
"Cry Wolf"[]
Darryl is alluded to when Iris describes her abductor. She described as an average looking man with a mustache and a burn on his arm. Iris revealed that when he held her captive, he was drunk but didn't do anything to her because she was still coherent and he waited for her medication to wear off. Iris managed to escape, forcing Darryl to leave for his own home and by the time APD raid the home, he is gone.
Doubts were raised from Iris' story, since nobody was seen exiting the home and her mental illness. However, Carlos believed Iris' detailed description and went back to the abandoned house that night to see if anything was overlooked. Carlos found an underground tunnel in the closet, while realizing how the abductor avoided the helicopter's line of sight. Carlos crossed the tunnel, until ending up in the Keyes' but got knocked out by Trudie.
"Abandoned"[]
When Darryl returns home, he finds an unexpected guest in the form of the tied-up Carlos Reyes. He learned of the break-in, before discovering Carlos' badge and telling his mother that he was a cop, who he recognizes as being present the other day when he saved Iris. At the same time, Carlos noticed from his face and arm burn that Darryl was the man from Iris' description. After sending his mother away to get the materials needed for his method, Carlos brought up the corpse that Trudie tried to hide and confirmed it was a recent victim. Darryl questioned Carlos why he was present and Carlos explained that he crossed the tunnel because was looking for him. Darryl congratulated Carlos on finding him but revealed his intentions of sealing it with Carlos inside and denounced Carlos' threats of back-up since he was casual clothes and the blood from his head was dry, noting he was present through the night. Afterwards, he takes the remaining drug to knock Carlos out before driving the latter's car to dump it somewhere.
Using his bike, Darryl later goes to his job, telling a coworker that he forgot something and passing himself off as a caring pharmacist by telling his coworker to inform a customer about her medication. Darrly slyly grabs a collection of morphine, intending to poison Carlos. Unknown to him, Carlos' father Texas Ranger Gabriel Reyes and Carlos' fiancé TK Strand investigated Carlos' disappearance and it led the authorities to discover Darryl's spree and found out that the drugs were all from the same pharmacy. They go to the pharmacy and learn that Darryl was present before their arrival and realize he intends to poison Carlos.
Afterwards, he goes home to find his mother was starting to release Carlos and angrily questions this. Having gotten free, Carlos attacks Darryl and leaves his face covered in burns from pot of boiling water, before beating on him but Trudie injects him with drugs. Carlos looked at Trudie, who said Darryl was her boy. Fortunately, a struggle leads to TK and Gabriel Reyes (Carlos' father) hearing commotion and rushing into find Carlos unconscious. After subduing the Keyes family, they are able to treat Carlos who manages to survive and see his family.
Darryl is then imprisoned for life on all of his crimes, and his mother is charged as an accessory.
