Colonel Datoo is an officer in the First Order and a minor antagonist in the seventh installment of the Star Wars movie franchise, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Datoo was portrayed by Rocky Marshall.
Biography
Datoo was a human military who served as a colonel in the First Order, a organization loyal to the dissolved Galactic Empire. Around 30 years after the Battle of Endor and the death of Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine, Datoo was in charge of the control room on the First Order's Starkiller Base superweapon and the coordinator of the main weapon of Starkiller Base. Under orders from Supreme Leader Snoke, he oversaw and shot the superweapon as it destroyed the Hosnian system and other 4 planets that served as the base of the New Republic and the New Republic's Fleet.
After Snoke's order to use the weapon to destroy the Resistence, Datoo began preparing to fire on the Ileenium system, where the Resistance's headquarters was located on D'Qar. However, the Resistence managed to destroy the weapon's core. As it became clear the base was going to be destroyed, Datoo remained in his position until the end, however, he was shocked to see Lieutenant Rodinon, the second in command of First Order's Starkiller Base trying to leave the control room. His final fate is unknown but it is presumed He died in the destruction of the base since he refused to run away (Rodinon dies too, not succeed to escape in time). In more, they didn't appear in the eighth installment of the Star Wars movie franchise, Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
Trivia
- He is considered the dark version of Tenn Graneet who was in charge of Death Star's superweapon. Both were in charge of their superweapon. During the epoch of the Death Star, Tenn doesn't know he destroyed Alderaan (in fact, he thought he had destroyed a star and not a planet) and regretted for what he did. Datoo, on the other hand, knew his target were 5 planets and shot the superweapon by his own will. His "similarities" with Tenn is almost like General Hux and Grand Moff Tarkin .
- According to the Star Wars Visual Dictionary: The Force Awakens the armband he wears on his sleeve commemorates Colonel Kaplan, an Imperial warlord (not to be confused with the character of the same name who is a crew member of the Finalizer),
