Dave Roberts is a fictional character and major antagonist of the British soap opera EastEnders. He merely appeared as a supporting antagonist in 2002.

In his storyline, Dave Roberts is an illegitimate bartender who planned to con his way into getting managment of The Queen Victoria public house from landlady Peggy Mitchell. This would involve terrorizing the other residents, but eventually he was foiled by Peggy and her daughter Sam.

The character was portrayed by David Kennedy, who would later play Ray in the series as well.

Biography[]

Dave Roberts first came to Albert Square in Walford, a fictional borough in East London, from October 2002. He claimed to be a legitimate businessman and respectful bartender who was interested in becoming manager of The Queen Victoria public house, as the landlady Peggy Mitchell was seeking management for her pub.

Soon enough, Dave began to woo Peggy into trusting him and went as far as to claim that he was a soldier who befriended her son Grant in the past. His scheme to secure management of the pub seems to work as Peggy allows Dave to stay in the pub for a couple of nights.

On the night of Halloween, Dave plans to seduce Peggy and have her sleep with him - but this was abandoned when a fire erupts in the neighbourhood; as wife-beater Trevor Morgan started the incident in an attempt to commit suicide with his long-suffering wife Little Mo Slater and baby son Sean. After being interrupted by Little Mo's sister Kat when she called into The Vic for help, Dave is forced to help Peggy acquire a ladder for local firefighter Tom Banks to rescue Little Mo and Sean from the fire; Tom's success in rescuing Little Mo and Sean is short lived when he rushes back to help Trevor and the house explodes, killing the two in front of everyone.

The next day, Dave attempts to convince Peggy to keep up with their pub routines despite the losses - as Peggy's estranged ex-daughter-in-law, Sharon Watts, was due to marry Tom before his untimely demise. It is by this point that Peggy's daughter, Sam, has become increasingly suspicious of Dave's ulterior motives and is further distrustful of him for bringing along his gang to cause distress in the pub. Later on one night, Sam confronts Dave and he attempts to seduce her. She rejects him and the situation gets out of hand when Dave attempts to rape her, but she fends him off before escaping from him.

Eventually, Sam tells Peggy the truth about the incident and Dave is sacked. However, he refuses to leave and threatens the pair before making his stand. Peggy and Sam devise a plan to force Dave's gang to leave the square for good, and they succeed with the help from their relative Billy and fellow neighbour Roy Evans - the latter of whom Dave had been clashing with for a while. When Dave realizes that his scheme is foiled, he is forced to leave and attempts to extort money - declaring that Walford is soft without Grant and his brother Phil being around. However, Sam stops him and orders him to get out; Dave thereafter leaves the square and is never seen again.
