David Esterbrook is the main antagonist of "The Cure", the sixth episode of Fringe.
He is portrayed by Chris Eigeman.
History[]
INtREPUS is a large pharmaceutical company and a direct competitor to Massive Dynamic. David Esterbrook lead the pharmaceutical research division, which worked on a series of controversial projects including prenatal gene therapy, human-animal hybridization studies, and viral warfare. One of these was a series of illegal drug trials. They involved taking people who suffer from a fictional rare autoimmune disease that destroys muscles and organs known as Bellini's Lymphocemia. They performed some kind of radiation therapy in form of nootropic drugs (methyl eugenol) to create weaponized forms of radiation.
The first known victim, Emily Kramer, was kidnapped and was given experimental medications by Esterbrook. Two weeks later, she was dropped off at a diner in Milford, Massachusetts, where her head exploded after a short time. The Fringe division investigated Kramer’s death, where Walter Bishop discovered INtREPUS’ plans by studying the body, he even figured out a counteragent.
Soon, Olivia Dunham learns of another kidnapped woman, Claire Williams, also suffering from the same disease. She learns about INtREPUS and Esterbrook from Kramer and Williams’ doctor, Nadim Patel. Olivia confronted Esterbrook at a medical conference to discover his motivations, but she was only to be threatened by him, and Phillip Broyles berates her for that recklessness. Peter Bishop and Nina Sharp made a plan to have the FBI storm the building and save Williams. Olivia confronted Esterbrook at INtREPUS, saying they have a statement from his employee admitting that Esterbrook supplied her with the facility and the equipment to transform Kramer and Williams into weapons. Esterbrook tried to pass this information off as a statement by a disgruntled former employee. Dunham slams Esterbrook to the table and handcuffs him, informing him that she's about to walk him outside where the press is waiting to take his picture. Broyles was upset about the public arrest of Esterbrook but Olivia feigned innocence. As a result of Esterbrook's detainment, INtREPUS' stock value fell considerably, and Massive Dynamic’s rose just as remarkably.
Legacy[]
During the final battle of the Observers, Walter and Olivia used the same radioactive isotope compound David Esterbrook had used to make the Observers’ heads explode.
Trivia[]
