| “ | Hundreds of Trojans, you're so f*cking broken, how'd I get caught up in your double life? | „ |
| ~ Lily referring to David's sex addiction and adultery. |
David Kenneth Harbour is the main antagonist of Lily Allen's 2025 pop album West End Girl.
He is Allen's ex-husband who committed numerous counts of adultery including with Madeline. His deceit and strategic cover-ups lead him to be depicted villainously by Allen throughout the album.
He is based on the real David Harbour. who also played Gregg Beam in Quantum of Solace, Frank Scanlon in The Green Hornet, Paul Devildis in Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Ray in A Walk Among the Tombstones, Eric Frankenstein in Creature Commandos, Jay Carlin in Law & Order, and Terry Jessup in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
Physical appearance[]
In the visualisers for the album, Allen's husband is portrayed as an older Caucasian man who is bald. This differs greatly from Harbour's real appearance.
Personality[]
Harbour is depicted primarily as a nymphomaniacal sex-addict and serial adulterer. Despite his seemingly kind actions toward his stepdaughters, his true nature centres on deceiving his wife through illicit affairs and breaking the terms of his open marriage.
The song "Fruityloop" goes into a deep dive of Harbour's psyche, where she identifies him to have an Oedipus Complex, and a representation of her father, Keith Allen, who affected her psychologically such that she sought out men like him.
Biography[]
Background[]
Harbour and Allen met in 2019 via the exclusive dating app, Raya. Harbour, an American actor and Allen, a British musician, married in 2020 after Allen experienced much romantic turmoil in her life. Allen announced their separation some years later which led to much speculation, and served as the impetus for West End Girl, her album released in 2025 after an 8 year hiatus from releasing. The album depicts Harbour inspired by real-life and exaggerated events cheating on Allen outside of their open marriage rules.
West End Girl[]
| “ | I said "I got some good news, I got the lead in a play" That's when your demeanour started to change You said that I'd have to audition, I said "You're deranged" |
„ |
| ~ Allen in West End Girl. |
In the first song of the album, Lily narrates how she and Harbour moved to New York, USA and under Harbour's pressure purchased a brownstone property which was out of budget, but authorised by Allen to appease Harbour. Their marriage is depicted as quite rosy to begin with, but when Lily is offered a part in the play 2:22 A Ghost Story, Harbour questions her talent and viability to sustain a position which Allen describes as "quite strange" behaviour.
At the end of the song, Allen uses direct speech to represent a FaceTime video call with Harbour where he asks for an open marriage. Allen is evidently perturbed by this but nonetheless agrees, wishing only for Harbour to be happy.
Ruminating[]
In the second song of the album, Allen describes how frequently she ruminates over doubts she has in her mind and patterns she recognises with Harbour's behaviour. Her paranoia becomes increasingly apparent as the song progresses.
Sleepwalking[]
| “ | Course I trusted you and took you at your word (At your word) Who said romance isn't dead? Been no romance since we wed "Why aren't we fucking baby?" Yeah, that's what you said But you let me think it was me in my head And nothing to do with them girls in your bed |
„ |
| ~ Allen in Sleepwalking. |
The third song on the album describes Allen's apathy and resentment over Harbour due to his changing mood. She comically refers to Harbour's ability to talk on for extended periods of time and being so uninteresting that her consciousness begins to feel like sleepwalking.
Tennis[]
In the fourth song of the album, Allen gets the confirmation of her paranoia that Harbour is having an affair. Whilst using Harbour' phone to search something online, she discovers a message from Madeline which is suggested to be conspicuous enough to grill Harbour over Madeline's identity.
Madeline[]
| “ | Then you showed me a photo on Instagram It was how you grabbed your phone back right out of my hands So I read your text, and now I regret it I can't get my head 'round how you've been playing tennis If it was just sex, I wouldn't be jealous You won't play with me And who's Madeline? |
„ |
| ~ Lily Allen in Tennis. |
With Harbour evidently denying any sort of affair, Allen takes matters in to her own hands and confronts the mysterious Madeline. Madeline is also evidently manipulated by Harbour and sends half-hearted texts influenced by this to Allen, whilst also trying to exonerate herself from the altercation.
Pussy Palace[]
| “ | I found a shoebox full of handwritten letters From brokenhearted women wishing you could have been better Sheets pulled off the bed, they're strewn all on the floor Long black hair, probably from the night before Duane Reade bag with the handles tied Sex toys, butt plugs, lube inside Hundreds of Trojans, you're so fucking broken How'd I get caught up in your double life? |
„ |
| ~ Allen discovering Harbour's gear in Pussy Palace. |
In this song, Allen describes how she locates keys to Harbour's alternative dwellings. In the property, she finds hundreds of Trojan condoms and sex toys which disgusts her. She realises that the man she has been married is a sex addict, and begins to almost pity him for this.
4chan Stan[]
| “ | What a sad, sad man It's giving 4chan stan |
„ |
| ~ Allen describing David's sex addiction. |
This song continues from the previous of Allen's comical analysis of Harbour's addiction, whereby she associates him with a user of 4Chan, a social website traditionally associated and represented by incels and misogynists.
Dallas Major[]
| “ | So I go by Dallas Major, but that's not really my name You know, I used to be quite famous, that was way back in the day Yes, I'm here for validation and I probably should explain How my marriage has been opened since my husband went astray |
„ |
| ~ Allen explaining her motivations and craving for validation after Harbour's affairs in Dallas Major. |
In the eleventh track on the album, Allen reveals she uses dating apps under the pseudonym "Dallas Major" for validation following the upset and grief she experienced on discovering his affairs. She explicitly references how she is doing this since David has cheated on her.
Quotes[]
| “ | Hi, how are you? I miss you Yeah Huh? Yeah Right Um Okay Well... I mean, it doesn't make me feel great Well, if that's what you need to do, then I guess Well, how, how will it work? Where—, right I mean it makes me really sad but Mm-hm Mm-hm No, I'm, I'm fine, I'm fine, I just, I want, I want you to be happy Okay Okay, I'll speak to you later I love you Bye |
„ |
