David and Jeanine Shaw, better known as The Heart Eyes Killer and even better known as Heart Eyes, are the titular main antagonists of the 2025 horror comedy film of the same name.
They're an obsessive and mentally-disturbed married couple of serial killers who target innocent couples for their own sick perverted pleasure and kill whoever gets in their way. They are both also the archenemies of Ally and Jay.
David is portrayed by Yoson An, while Jeanine is portrayed by Jordana Brewster. In-costume scenes as The Heart Eyes Killer were portrayed by Alex McColl.
Biography[]
Little is revealed about the couple's history. Jeanine is a Seattle police detective, while David is a computer technician for the same department. For reasons unknown, the two of them became thrill killers of couples on Valentine's Day for years, murdering twenty-four people in multiple cities. When David drops his wedding ring engraved with Jeanine's initials, which is the first sign of evidence of the killer's identity, so they think fast and look for a patsy. They find Jay Simmons working with Ally McCabe and mistake them for a couple, so they chase after them and hope to frame him as the murderers, with Jay not having alibis for multiple attacks. The Shaws end up killing additional people as they hunt Ally and Jay, including a cab driver named Janos and Shaw's partner, Detective Hobbs. A serial killer groupie named Eli butchers at least six people in a drive-in massacre, before Ally and Jay fight back and stab him in the heart through the back with his own machete. As Ally barfs all over his corpse after getting sprayed with his blood before taking the mask off.
Even in spite of the case seeming closed, the Shaws kidnap Jay as Jenine façades that she survived and offers to bring him home. Later they call Ally, threatening Jay's life if she doesn't comply or if she calls for help. Luring Ally to the St. Valentine's Chapel, the Shaws reveal themselves and explain their motivation for killing couples just for thier sick stupid pleasure. They tell Ally she can kill Jay or herself. Ally confesses her love for Jay as she admits that spending time with him made her realise love is real. She makes it look like she was gonna shoot herself to save him but shoots at Jeanine instead, through Jay's shoulder and once Jay breaks free, each of them fight one of the killers.
David grabs Jay as he taunts how he's gonna make him watch Jeanine kill Ally, but Jay taunts David back telling him "You talk too much" as he stabs David in the eye with his own arrow as he picked from his pocket unnoticed while he was gloating. As David screams in extreme pain, as he falls onto the candles as the wax all spill on him, as he continues screaming in agony as they burn him, much to Jeanine's horror.
Enraged, she attempts to kill Jay, but Ally attacks her but manages to beat her down in a fit of anger. Ally stabs Jeanine in the windpipe with her metal straw and taunts her saying, "Love hurts bitch". Then Ally ragefully pushes Jeanine into the statue, impaling her through her neck, as she painfully gets slowly decapitated.
Then David resurfaces, making a foolish attempt to attack Jay and Ally as he crawls to them, but Jay shoots David with his own arrow. Finally ending the Heart Eyes Killer once and for all and avenging all their victims.
Personality[]
Being deranged serial-killers, The Heart Eyes Killers are vengeful and psychologically manipulative and take disturbing pleasure in their horrid crimes, they specifically target couples to fuel their perversion. They're needlessly ruthless in killing for no reason apart from sheer sadism, even a random couple by impaling their mouths.
But in the end, they face pure karma when David gets stabbed then killed with his own arrow and Jeanine herself as she gets brutally stabbed and painfully beheaded, showing how they don’t like it when they get brutally killed back.
Abilities[]
- Marksmanship: The serial killers are proficient in wielding firearm weaponry and use them with accuracy from further distances. As David as Heart Eyes managed to shoot an engaging couple from several inches away with a crossbow directly in the head and the other in the leg.
- Knifemanship: Secondary to weapon proficiency is handling a blade as Heart Eyes has expertise of which body parts are vital for stabbing. At first hand, the killer impales a photographer through his own camera to the eye, a police guard lady in the back, even their own partner in the shoulder without causing severe damage.
- Stealth: Heart Eyes is a master at evasive actions, as the killers stalk their victims from distances in every area where couples go for romantic moments without being anticipated.
- Peak human endurance: The killers possess a high level of pain tolerance enabling them to endure huge amounts of punishment almost inhuman. Demonstrated when David had his fingers caught in the window of the winery machine and didn’t shout, Eli as Heart Eyes was hit in the back of the head with a metallic object only to bleed out through his eyes and mouth but was still conscious before being fatally stabbed by his blade and died. While both Jeanette was shot in the stomach still being able to be active until Ally flung her neck against the statue sword of Saint Valentine and beheaded, and David impaled in the face with his retractable arrows before candlelight melts over him but was shown limping towards the couple only to be killed by an arrow to his head from the crossbow.
- Peak human speed: Another attribute the killer possesses is athletic feats of speed as each heart eyes figure is fast enough to swift react and dodge against obstacles.
- Night vision (via Mask): Through the use of the mask Heart Eyes is able to see in the total darkness using red colored vision.
- Voice changer: While wearing the mask, the killer’s voice is completely disguise so that victims can’t identify who is underneath the figure taunting them.
Trivia[]
- The Shaws are likely inspired by Ghostface since they are both heart eyes killers (swapping the mask between one another) and that an obsessive fan known as Eli is imitating The Heart Eyes Killer.
- The Heart Eyes killer is currently the next iconic holiday themed horror movie serial killer after Michael Myers from Halloween and John Carver from Thanksgiving.
