Deacon "Deac" Frost is the main antagonist of the 1998 movie Blade, the first film in the Blade trilogy, and its prequel comic book Blade: Sins of the Father. Frost was a vicious and evil vampire who is the archenemy of Blade,“the Daywalker” including being his presumed murderer, and in reality the brainwasher of the Daywalker's mother Vanessa Brooks.
He was portrayed by Stephen Dorff, who also portrayed Dale Massie in Cold Creek Manor.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Frost was an ordinary human, but at some point of his life, he was bitten by an unknown vampire and mutated into a vampire himself. Later in his life, at some point he joined the House of Erebus, and became the youngest, yet most brilliant member of the Shadow Council. However, Frost despised being reminded that he wasn't a pure-blood vampire, but just a transformed former human, and desired for a long time to overthrow the council and become the leader of the House Erebus himself.
At some point of his life, Frost attacked Blade's pregnant mother Vanessa Brooks and bite her, slowly killing the woman and eventually transforming Blade's mother into a vampire like him. However, a vampire virus that entered Vanessa's body transformed her infant son into the human-vampire hybrid named Blade, the Daywalker who started hunting the vampire race, protecting humankind and desiring to get revenge on whoever killed his mother. However, Blade didn't know that Frost was the one who murdered his mother and the Daywalker also didn't know that his mother was turned into a vampire herself and joined Frost's gang.
Blade (1998)[]
Frost's goal was to bring glory and dominance to the vampire race by reviving the vampiric blood god known La Magra, using Blade's blood in a special ritual. Frost believes that the world belongs to the Hominus Nocturna and not the humans, as he sees the human race as nothing but food. He leads and represents a renegade faction of fellow vampires who believe the vampires deserve to rule the world, and Frost constantly searches for Blade in an attempt to take his blood and use it to revive the god. At some point of the movie, Frost killed his subordinate, familiar Officer Krieger, by completely sucking the blood out of the corrupt policeman, after Krieger failed to capture Blade.
Frost and his minions also captured Blade's ally, the nurse and scientist Karen Jensen, while also heavily wounding and biting Blade's best friend and mentor Abraham Whistler, who told Blade everything he knew about Frost's plans. Karen was brought to their lair and Frost personally insulted and taunted Karen that once La Magra would be released, the world that she knew would be destroyed. Frost was also insulted when Karen reminded him of his origin, that he wasn't a vampire by birth, but a former human who joined House Erebus. The vampire Shadow Council, including Dragonetti, disagreed with Frost's ideology, but Frost ends up usurping the power over the Council, killing Dragonetti by exposing his former superior to the morning sun. Frost becomes the leader of the House Erebus afterwards.
Eventually, Frost succeeded in capturing Blade and revealed to his archenemy that it was he, who bite his mother, while also showing Blade his vampirized mother, who was now one of his servants. Frost imprisoned Blade used his blood, alongside the blood of the twelve pure-blood members of the Shadow Council, therefore finally summoning La Magra. Frost merged with La Magra and adopted the tremendous supernatural powers from the vampire god. However, Blade managed to break free from his captors with the help of Karen and fights Frost in the middle of the temple. After an intense sword fight, Blade dismembers Frost but newfound powers allowed his body to reattach itself as well as to regenerate any lost limbs. Despite this, Blade injects him with several vials of EDTA, a liquid created by Karen that reacted explosively with vampire blood. Frost roared in agony as his entire body swelled and melt spraying blood across the temple floor.
Blade II[]
Years later, during Blade's conflict with Jared Nomak, Eli Damaskinos and his attorney thanked Blade for killing Frost, indicating that Frost was understandably not very liked by most of the vampire community outside of his gang.
Personality[]
Frost is a cold-hearted and sadistic sociopath who shows no mercy for human life. He decides to kill his familiar, Officer Krieger, after the cop falls for a trap set by Blade. Frost is exceptionally sexual, even towards Dragonetti. He has several lovers, including Mercury and Vanessa Brooks. Frost is close to Quinn, and even pretends to attempt to cut off Quinn's hand simply as a gag between the two friends. But it has been rumored that Deacon and Quinn were once lovers ages ago. Deacon Frost is of average height, though many of his allies tower above him, and is extremely fit and agile. He possesses extreme fighting abilities and is extremely strong as he is a vampire.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Vampirism: Vampirism is the physiological act of becoming and/or turning another human being into a vampire. Despite its roots in European folklore, vampirism exists in nature, and there are many such creatures who are actually born as vampires. Pathologically, vampirism is likened to a virus, carried in the saliva of predators. The vampire enzyme is carried through a victim's bloodstream and within seventy-two hours, mutates the subject's physiology, creating new parasitic organs. It has been described as "cancer with a purpose".
- Biological Immortality: Vampires are essentially invulnerable to most forms of bodily harm, including the effects of the disease, and the natural cellular mitosis that comes with aging. Vampires are not living creatures, and as such, they do not require oxygen to breathe. Vampires can exist without undue stress in oxygen-free environments such as being submerged underwater or buried beneath the earth.
- Pureblood vampires will age into adulthood, while turned vampires maintain the physical form they had when they were still human. Theoretically, a vampire can live forever providing that it is not destroyed.
- Protractile Fangs/Claws: Vampires possess adapted musculature around the canine teeth that can extend these to become fangs. Similarly, they can also extend their fingernails to claw-like proportions.
- Superhuman Strength: Most vampires possess superhuman physical strength more developed than a human being's strength. The vast majority of known and recorded vampires are capable of lifting from one thousand to four thousand pounds. A vampire's enhanced strength also enables them to perform other superhuman feats such as leaping great distances. Supplementing their strength, vampires are naturally heartier than normal humans and can withstand severe physical exertion with no ill effects. It is unknown if vampire strength levels differ between purebloods and turned vampires.
- Superhuman Durability: As a vampire Frost is capable of enduring more physical trauma than the finest human athlete. Excessive force will cause physical damage to a vampire, but their bodies will regenerate damaged tissue providing they can supplement themselves with regular supplies of blood. However, their bodies will not regenerate from lethal damage or damage by silver weaponry and sunlight.
- Superhuman Reflexes: A vampire's reflexes, agility, and reaction time are many times greater than those of a normal human being. At maximum optimal capacity, a vampire-like Deacon Frost can move more quickly than the human eye can perceive.
- Supernatural Empowerment: As the Avatar of La Magra, the Patron deity of the Vampires, Deacon Frost possessed several new supernatural abilities. So far he had only displayed some of these abilities;
- Regenerative Healing Factor: As an Avatar of La Magra, he possesses immensely powerful regenerative abilities that made him almost impossible to defeat or harm. He was able to instantaneously regenerate his arm after Blade had sliced it off, and even to reattach the severed halves of his body when Blade cut him in two.
- Strength Augmentation: As an Avatar of La Magra, Frost's physical strength was dramatically increased. He was able to defeat Blade, an already powerful vampire hunting Dhampir with just a few blows and incapacitate him for a while with just one physical strike.
- Supervampiric Immunities: As an Avatar of La Magra, Frost showed a complete immunity to silver weapons and even sunlight. These are common, yet lethal, weaknesses for even the strongest of turned and pureblood vampires.
- Speed Augmentation: His mobility was also enhanced to the point where even creatures with superhuman reflexes could not react to his attacks.
Notable Victims[]
- Vanessa Brooks - Bitten and turned into a vampire.
- Officer Krieger - Bitten on the neck.
- Gitano Dragonetti - Kidnapped and forced to die from sunlight exposure.
- Abraham Whistler (later revived) - Shot himself after being bitten by Frost.

Trivia[]
- This incarnation of Frost is notably much younger than his original comic book counterpart, looking in his thirties-forties, in contrast to his original comic book version, who was quite old and white-haired. The same case happened to his anime version.
- He is also currently the only incarnation of himself to be approved as Pure Evil, while all other incarnations aren't currently approved.
- Frost also lacked the trademark ability of his original comics version to create the clones of himself.
- In the comics, Frost becomes a vampire deity, but his appearance is different from the movie: he has the shape of a classic demon, with green skin and horns on his head.
- An early draft of the script for Blade would have revealed him as the drifter that killed Whistler's family.
