~ Deacon Frost explaining his views on the atrocities he has committed to a captive Blade |
Deacon Frost was a turned vampire who created the Vampire organization named "Existence" in order to go to war against the Pureblood Council of Vampires who resided in Europe. Deacon Frost was also responsible for turning the pregnant Vanessa Brooks in London, which resulted in the birth of the day walker Eric Brooks.
He is the main antagonist of the Marvel Anime: Blade series and his English voiced actor was JB Blanc. In the Japanese version, he was voiced by Tsutomu Isobe.
History[]
Human Life[]
Deacon Frost was a doctor who lived with his brilliant son Edgar. His wife passed away sometime before his son entered college with dreams of becoming a doctor like his father. Deacon Frost was always astonished by his son's scientific brilliance and he was incredibly proud of his son's success in being rewarded a research grant. Edgar enjoyed his success as a scholar before being murdered by a burglar who broke into the Frost household one night.
Frost was devastated by the loss of his son, and was frustrated with the police refusing to follow up on the case. Frost then began researching his son's death himself and this eventually led him deep into the occult. After extensive research, Frost came to believe that the burglar who murdered his son was a vampire. Frost also came to believe that the police were familiars, and therefore had a sworn duty to cover up such incidents. These beliefs and the daily visits to the police station made every question Deacon's grip on his own sanity.
Perfecting Vampirism[]
Frustrated by police, Deacon Frost teamed up with a group of Vampire hunters under the pretence that we was using his scientific knowledge to find a cure for Vampirism. He eventually turned on the vampire hunters and used them as guinea pigs to test out his reverse engineered strain of the vampire virus. He revealed that his goal was to perfect vampirism instead in order to eradicate the Purebloods.
He eventually succeeded in creating an enhanced variation of the vampire virus and injected himself with it. This enhanced strain turned Frost into a more powerful type of vampire, whose physical abilities were on par with the Pureblood Vampires, if not surpassed them. As a consequence of the reverse engineered strain he used, he had four fangs instead of the regular two fangs vampires possess.
One night in London, he was hungry and decided to randomly feed on a woman named Vanessa Brooks, who at the time was pregnant with Eric. She used a silver blade to defend herself and scarred Frost with it, making him flee. This attack also inadvertently turned the foetus Eric into a Dhampir, a human being who possesses the powers of a vampire, and none of their weaknesses; except for the need to consume blood. After Eric grew up, he began hunting Vampires and even began searching for Deacon Frost for the next couple of decades. Frost always managed to evade Eric due to his superior abilities and psychological trickery, and always collected samples from Eric for his experiments before leaving him. Frost also turned the father of the vampire hunter Makoto into a vampire, which set in motion the beginning of Makoto and Blade teaming up to take down Frost.
Establishing Existence[]
To be added.
Characteristics[]
As shown when he recounts his past to a captive Blade, Frost always an obsessive person and would fanatically pursue his goals. He started out as a fairly stereotypical researcher who always focused on his work and rarely made time for anything else, except his beloved son Edgar. Frost was always very proud of his son and astonished by his brilliance. After the murder of his son by a vampire, Frost become obsessed with solving the murder and this obsessiveness led him to discover the existence of vampires as well as make everyone question his sanity. After joining a group of vampire hunters, Frost became bolder and displayed an extraordinary amount of stoicism and willpower. He would rarely raise his voice even when angered, with a demeanour and style similar to a Victorian era British professor.
After discovering the existence of vampires and realizing that one of them murdered his son, Frost became extremely vengeful to vampires overall. He was determined to eradicate the Pureblood Vampires out of vengeance and even went as far as to inject himself with an experimental strain of the vampire virus, which turned him into an extraordinarily powerful vampire. He has also shown himself to be overconfident and borderline arrogant, despite planning out everything methodically. He first displayed his arrogance when meeting with Lucius, the Pureblood representative, and had even underestimated Blade in their final fight, which cost Frost his life.
Powers and Abilities[]
Powers[]
- Artificially Enhanced Vampirism: From years of research and experimenting, Frost was able to reverse-engineer and refine the vampire genes. Upon injecting himself with this new serum, he gained all the attributes and abilities of any Pureblood vampire, but strengthened to much higher levels than any other vampire.
- Infectious Bite: Frost can infect human beings with the vampire virus through his bite, turning them into vampires. Although, the do not become enhanced vampires like himself.
- Superhuman Strength: Frost possesses immense raw strength. He is able to easily defeat a powerful half-breed like Blade in combat and even render him injured and unconscious after a few physical blows.
- Superhuman Speed: Frost displays incredible superhuman speed and reflexes, being capable of easily dodging Blade's attacks and even parrying with Blade's sword using just one of his hands.
- Superhuman Endurance: Frost also displays incredible levels of physical durability, being able to parry Blade's silver weapons using just his hands. After his transformation into the ultimate vampire, his arms become durable enough to take blows from silver weapons without risk of injury.
- Regenerative Healing: As a vampire, he can regenerate from injuries faster and more efficiently than most other species. However, he cannot fully heal damages made by silver weapons as the scar Vanessa Brooks gave him is still there.
- Biological Immortality: As a vampire, he is immune to aging and illnesses. He can still be killed by powerful weapons or weapons made of silver.
- Sunlight Immunity: After conducting further genetic enhancements on himself, he made himself immune to sunlight.
Abilities[]
- Scientific Brilliance: Even before becoming a powerful vampire, Frost was a gifted scientist with an astounding genius-level intellect. He was able to use his mastery over sciences to turn himself into an extremely powerful vampire and even created new variations of the vampire virus for his subordinates in Existence.
- Charismatic Leadership: As a leader of Existence, Frost displays immense leadership skills and is very charismatic. His charismatic nature and leadership skills earned him the fear (and to some extent the respect) of the Pureblood Council in Europe. He is able to quickly establish Existence in Asia and even had familiars and large facilities established as well as gathered the necessary resources at extraordinary speeds.
- Psychological Warfare: Frost has also shown himself to be skilled in manipulating the emotions of his targets. He has often used this to enrage Blade in order to have a better chance at defeating him in combat. He even used this to enrage Blade to the fullest so he can drain an adrenaline fuelled variant of his blood for his experiments. It had been noted by Lucius, a Pureblood representative, that it seemed more like Frost was the one chasing Blade instead of the other way around.
- Skilled Combatant: In addition to his incredible might and reflexes, Frost is also a skilled combatant. Even as a human, he had spent years as a successful vampire hunter before turning himself into an artificially enhanced vampire. When fighting Blade, he had shown himself to be capable of parrying Blade with just one of his arms. In his ultimate form, Frost was able to take on Blade and had almost bested him, were it not for Vanessa Brook's silver dagger.
Trivia[]
- This version of Deacon Frost appears to be more accurate to the one from the comics, unlike the one from the Blade movie trilogy.
- Unlike his comic book and movie counterparts, Frost is driven by an obsessive desire for revenge against Vampires in general for the murder of his son, Edgar Frost.
- Like his movie counterpart, he also resents the Pureblood Vampires due to who they are and their self-grandiose elitism.
- Like his movie counterpart, Frost has ambitions to enhance their powers. Whereas the movie counterpart used ancient magic to enhance his powers and become an avatar for La Magra, the blood deity, the anime counterpart used his scientific knowledge to enhance his powers.
- Both the movie counterpart and the anime counterpart succeed in their respective goals of eradicating the Vampire Pureblood council and turning themselves into the ultimate vampires, before being killed by Blade.
