Elmer, also known as Deadwood is a supporting antagonist in the Netflix TV Show The Dragon Prince. He was the champion and bodyguard of notorious elf pirate Finnegrin. Having been abused for so long, he decided that he had enough of his master, since he understood that people could like him for who he is like Soren did. This led Elmer to redeem himself by turning against Finnegrin and feeding him alive to a sea leviathan.
He is voiced by Dave Ward, who also voiced Kyokotsu in the English Dub of Inuyasha.
Biography[]
Backstory[]
Not much is known about Elmer's backstory, but at some point in his life, he became the bodyguard of the pirate lord Finnegrin. He would also serve as Finnegrin's champion, who would fight in Finnegrin's name in Scumport's fighting pit. Finnegrin, however, showed no graditude for his help, and started calling him Deadwood.
One day, an Sunfire elf named Darys challanged Finnegrin, so the latter ordered Deadwood to attack Darys. Deadwood then beats him to a pulp, and would have killed him if it weren't for Finnegrin nodding at him to stop.
The Dragon Prince[]
When Callum and Ezran went to see Finnegrin in his office to make a deal with him to use his ship to go to the Sea of Castout, as they wanted to go there to stop Aaravos from being freed, Deadwood met them at the entrace of Finnegrin's office, where he tells them that no one saw Finnegrin unannounced.
Ezran then told him that they were on a mission that couldn't wait. Deadwood then noticed Bait, and asked if it was Ezran's, which he affirmed. Deadwood then complimented Bait's name, and allowed Ezran and Bait to go meet Finnegrin, but not Callum.
After Finnegrin was done talking with Ezran and Ezran found out that he had infant glow toads and decided to steal them from Finnegrin, Soren would disguise himself and ask to meet Finnegrin, telling Deadwood that he wanted to sell valuables to him. While informing Finnegrin, the latter ordered Deadwood to replace one of his crab's shell.
During Soren's conversation with Finnegrin, Deadwood pulls Soren off Finnegrin's table after he accidentaly spilled ink in one of Finnegrin's papers. After Soren told Finnegrin that his valuables were on his ship, Deadwood went with Finnegrin, and went back to the office when Soren disappeared after Callum and Villads released a smoke bomb in the middle of a street.
After Finnegrin noticed that someone stole his keys to the office, Deadwood kicks the door open, where he and Finnegrin realized that Ezran stole his infant glow toads. After Team Zym left Scumport through the Ruthless, Finnegrin followed them using his boat, the Sea Legs. After Team Zym noticed that Finnegrin was after them, they tried to escape, but to no avail and they end up getting captured.
Later, when Callum refused to make a dark magic spell for Finnegrin, Deadwood grabs to sea anemones and repetedly eletrocutes Callum with them. During Finnegrin's attempt to force Callum into doing dark magic, Deadwood stops Rayla from going to Callum and lifts her up before ordering her to sit down. When he saw Callum's friends offering to have their hands cut off to protect each other, Deadwood asks why they would do it, as a hand would take weeks to regrow, with Soren replying that it would be much longer than that.
Rayla would attack Deadwood and knock him down before grabbing two spears and trying to attack Finnegrin. However, Finnegrin freezes her blood before she could do it, which makes her fall into the ground in pain. Callum then grabs Finnegrin and punches him in the face, with Deadwood then knocking Callum unconscious. After Callum saved Rayla from getting eaten by a sea leviathan and Finnegrin failed to freeze Callum's blood, he orders Deadwood to shocke Callum to death.
However, Soren was able to stop Deadwood by sympathizing with him and telling him that just because Finnegrin is cruel doesn't mean he has to be, and after seeing Soren looking at him with a smile even when he was about to get killed, Deadwood decided that he had enough of Finnegrin and threw him to a sea leviathan's mouth, killing him. Later, he is seen smiling when Soren told Nyx that Elmer beat Finnegrin.

- His real name means "noble" or "famous" in British. Fittingly, he's shown to be a compassionate and gentle creature once he's free from Finnegrin's cruelty.
