~ The game description. |
Death is the main antagonist of indie survival Christmas game Beneath the Cardboard by PrivateTed.
It is a mysterious grim reaper appearing to take the life of a homeless child stranded on the city streets a week before Christmas.
Appearance[]
Death looks like a tall figure in a black cloak with a hood. The Reaper also wears a kind of mask consisting of silver vertical stripes, resembling a skull and armed with a scythe.
Personality[]
Little is known about the nature of Death, however, based on its behavior, it can be assumed that this is a very cruel and cold-blooded creature, since it is capable of killing a homeless child.
It may also be interpreted that the reaper is just a near-death hallucination of the protagonist dying of hypothermia, or a symbolic embodiment of their demise.
Biography[]
Beneath the Cardboard[]
A homeless child is thrown out on the cold streets of the city a week before Christmas. They are forced to survive on the streets, eating scraps from garbage bins and keeping warm by burning boxes so as not to die from hypothermia on cold winter nights. However, if the protagonist's body temperature drops below 35 degrees, sooner or later, when they blink, Death with a scythe will appear in front of them.
At this moment, the child's body temperature will drop to a critical point in an instant, which will lead to their imminent death.
A short time before its fatal appearance, the reaper can be seen in the distance or behind the player's back, if they are pressed back against the wall.
Trivia[]
- There is a theory in the game’s community that Death is not really a grim reaper, but a maniac who kills children, however, this version is refuted by the creature's paranormal abilities, such as teleportation and a child's body temperature manipulation, as well as the presence of traditional grim reaper attributes like a scythe.
- The behavior of Death during its attack resembles Slender Man, the famous character of Creepy Pasta and the antagonist of the game Slender: The Eight Pages and Slender: The Arrival.
