Deathstorm is a name used by two recurring antagonists in the DC Comics universe.

The first version of the character was born from a combination of the Black Lantern Corps power and the Firestorm matrix. While tensions between Ronnie Raymond and Jason Rusch continued, the creature occasionally caused disruptions before reaching out of Firestorm, forcibly separating Ronnie and Jason while officially calling himself Deathstorm. The second version was a member of the Crime Syndicate of America from Earth 3.

History[]

Black Lantern[]

The first incarnation of Deathstorm was Ronnie Raymond's corpse reanimated as a Black Lantern. He attacks Jason and kills Gehenna before eventually being destroyed and Ronnie fully restored to life. Later, Black Lantern energy combines with the Firestorm Matrix to created a new Deathstorm separate from Ronnie. He attempts to manipulate Ronnie and Jason into fighting, which would destabilize the Matrix and destroy the universe, before being killed by the Life Entity.

Deathstorm intended to use the emotional instability between Ronnie and Jason so the Firestorm matrix will trigger a Big Bang-level event to destroy all life in the universe, absorbing Martin Stein and Alvin Rusch into himself to torture the two. Deathstorm beckons Firestorm to follow to Silver City, New Mexico which is the Central Power White Lantern Battery's resting place. Deathstorm tries to lift the White Lantern battery, but is unable to until he infects the object with black energy after which he is able to lift with ease. Deathstorm uses the corrupted object to create an army of the Black Lantern spectrums of Reverse-Flash, Maxwell Lord, Hawk, Jade, Captain Boomerang, the Martian Manhunter, Aquaman, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Deadman and Osiris.

Deathstorm and the Black Lanterns move to an unknown location. Deathstorm has an internal argument with Martin and Alvin, messing with his two hostages. Deathstorm and the Black Lanterns are shown on Qward delivering his corrupted power source for the Anti-Monitor seeking to harvest the life energy to grow stronger. Firestorm takes the White Lantern Battery and attempts to fight the Anti-Monitor, but is defeated. Deathstorm brings Martin out of his own Firestorm Matrix to taunt. Deathstorm then attempts to kill Jason and Ronnie, but the Professor takes the attack. Ronnie and Jason truly work together, and the Entity then unleashes a burst of white energy that obliterates the Black Lanterns, returns Alvin home, and deposits Firestorm in the Star City forest.

Another version of Deathstorm was a doppelganger of Firestorm introduced during the "Trinity War" event, as a fusion of Earth 3's Martin Stein and a corpse. When Pandora's Box was opened during the Trinity War, the Earth 3 creature Deathstorm emerged along with his fellow Crime Syndicate team members and attacked the Justice League. Deathstorm was originally Martin Stein, who harnessed the powers of the Firestorm Matrix for his evil plans. This version of the character was later killed by Alex Luthor from Earth 3, who smashed his head and absorbed his powers. However, Deathstorm was ressurected during the Infinite Frontier event.
