Debra is a minor antagonist in the 2013 video game Grand Theft Auto V, the fifteenth installment of the Grand Theft Auto series.
She is Floyd Herbert's fiancée and a lawyer. She constantly cheats on Floyd and abuses him. In the events of the game, while she's abroad, Trevor Philips and his friend Wade Hebert, Floyd's cousin, set up camp in her apartment in Vespucci Beach, Los Santos, to search for Michael De Santa, who was presumed dead 9 years ago.
She was voiced by Claire Byrnes.
Biography[]
Details on Debra's personal life are not explored, but given by the setup of her apartment, how she treats her boyfriend, Floyd Hebert, and many comments about her highlight Debra's unsavory qualities. At an unknown point in time, Debra and Floyd met and got engaged. Details on Debra's occupation are also unexplored, but it's revealed that she frequently travels abroad, and because of this, does not spend a lot of time with her fiancée.
She also spends time with a mysterious associate named Bob, who she was very likely sleeping with. According to Debra herself, Bob also taught her how to use a gun, according to Debra herself.
Events of Grand Theft Auto V[]
During Trevor's plan of searching for Michael De Santa, one of Trevor's employees, Wade Hebert, mentions that he has a cousin in Los Santos. Trevor and Wade then travel to Floyd and Debra's condo, hoping to stay there so that the mission is easier. Trevor forces himself into the condo, and constantly bullies Floyd, taking advantage of his milquetoast and passive nature. Trevor also trashes the condo during his stay, as well as planning multiple heists in it.
During this time, Debra is not seen, as she is on one of her business trips. Debra eventually comes back home, furious to see that state her home is in. Not only does she try to force Trevor to leave, but Floyd as well, immediately ending their relationship. In a ham-fisted way, Trevor tries to beg Debra to let him stay, and even mockingly ask Floyd and Debra to "marry him".
This fuels Debra's rage even further, causing her to pull a gun on both Trevor and Floyd, stating that Bob taught her how to use a gun. For the first time, Floyd stands up for himself and pulls out a knife, and screams, "F-CK Bob!". The screen then goes black, and Trevor leaves the apartment, covered in blood, and tries his best to distract Wade from seeing the dead couple inside.
Although the player does not see what actually happened to the couple, a radio report implies that Debra shot Floyd, then Trevor acquired Floyd's knife and stabbed Debra in the head.
Personality[]
Debra is unlikable, narcissistic, unfaithful, manipulative and may have anger issues. Her narcissistic side is shown with many photos of herself being placed all over her home, with Floyd not being in any of them. It is also shown that Debra has her own bedroom in the apartment, with Floyd likely sleeping outside of it, showing that the couple are probably rarely to never intimate. In one of her Bleeter posts, she says that "Work is great when home life is underwhelming" which shows that she is not satisfied with Floyd.
The player can overhear a phone conversation with Floyd and Debra, and the dialogue suggests that Debra is too embarrassed to admit saying she loves Floyd in the presence of her co-workers. It is also heavily implied that Debra bosses Floyd around, making him do all the work in the relationship, leaving the relationship strained, unbalanced and one-sided. She did not hesitate to kick Floyd out of her home, or give Floyd any type of second chance, despite Trevor being the one that worsened the situation.
