Following Orion Pax, D-16, Elita-1, and B-127's escape from the Death Trackers, they unknowingly trespassed into the High Guard's hiding spot, where they were mistaken for spies and captured for interrogation. But D-16 remained defiant and challenged Starscream for leadership, which ended successfully. But Airachnid leads Sentinel's forces to attack their headquarters before the D-16 could to launch an attack, capturing half of the High Guard, including D-16, Starscream, and Bee as prisoners.
In Sentinel's tower, the false Prime had planned to publicly execution them for treason, a siege had led by Orion and Elita; with the remaining High Guard; with Soundwave and Shockwave to free them. In the ensuing battle, the High Guard fought against Sentinal's legion; until D-16 had killed Sentinel; by ripping him apart. They then had assisted the now Megatron in destroying lacon, endangering everyone in the process, choosing to follow Megatron; even against Optimus Prime, the newly rebuilt Orion Pax equipped with the Matrix of Leadership. Following their rampage being halted and defeating Megatron, he had banished them all from lacon back to the surface.
Swearing vengeance on Optimus Prime, Megatron branded the High Guard; with the symbol of Megatronus face; completely reestablishing them as the Decepticons for the upcoming war against the Optimus Prime and the newly established Autobots.

Trivia[]
- The sticker of Megatronus Prime's mask that D-16 wore would eventually become the symbol for the Decepticons in the end.
- The sticker (and by extension Megatronus's face itself) is based on the original 1984 iteration of the Decepticon insignia, while the faction symbols that Megatron stamps on the Decepticons at the end of the post-credits scene are based on the badge's redesign from 2007 film.
- Unlike many continuities, in this continuity, Megatronus did not serve as the secret founder of the Decepticons, since he died before the alliance is born. Megatronus's only association with the alliance is his face being used as its emblem, due to Megatron idolize him.
- The Decepticons being former warriors that served to protect Cybertron appears to be similar to how the Decepticons were formed in the IDW comics of Michael Bay's Transformers films, in which the Decepticons once acted as the military guardians of Cybertron before their fallen descent. It also aligns with details from the Generation 1 cartoon continuity, which stated that the Decepticons were originally mass-market military robots.
- Considering on what happened to him in the film, D-16/Megatron is the only miner bot to become an Decepticon and not an Autobot, considering he is founder of the former after becoming the ruthless tyrant at the end of the film.
- The Decepticon's philosophy that all that matters is the strength of one bot over another ultimately proved to be flawed and is the reason why they fail to defeat Optimus in the final battle because:
- During the battle, Megatron spend most of the time try to shoot Optimus's face with his gun, and thus missed many opportunities to shoot him in the body.
- They prefer physical combat over strategy, which is evidence by how they all just charge at Optimus instead of shooting him from far or flying and then rain down firepower from above.
- They underestimate Optimus because they have a number advantage over him, not caring that Optimus was blessed with the Matrix, which contains the Primes's knowledge about the High Guard, including their weakness.
