War Chief Decimus is the first war chieftain of The Banished and the secondary antagonist of Halo Wars 2.
He was second in command of the Banished during its founding, and one of the founders as they had expanded their faction. He is voiced by T.J. Storm.
History[]
Early life and service in the Covenant[]
During the war, he was amongst the Jiralhanae who fought in Algolis, partaking in suicide missions. He also had a strong grudge against the Covenant's "Great Journey", and later sought out along with Atriox to be executed by unknown Sangheili forces. However, they later rebelled and killed their executioner, which he killed the most with his bare hands.
Life in the Banished[]
After founding the Banished, the duo later partook in raids on the empire's supply lines, and later met Sig Raan, a scientist he once knew, in order to support their fleets with her technological prowess, but later turned on them and ends up dying in the process.
Even without Sig Raan, they had expanded their faction by recruiting numerous warriors, mercenaries, and criminals, enough to maintain rank, with Decimus appointing himself as War Chief. During this time, he still harbored a hatred for Sangheili like any other Brute, as he sent Sangheili mercenaries under his command on suicide missions, and in some, sent them in as cannon fodder for his own amusement.
Encounter with Jovus[]
Eventually, they meet Jovus, an old Brute who had made notoriety, later engaging in conversation on his leader's lethality. But Jovus had placed charges around them in defiance of Atriox, and were apprehended by Voridus and Pavium. They later fled to their supply depot, and their group were defeated, leaving Jovus weak and limp due to plasma scoring. Decimus stood there when Atriox had tried to reason with Jovus on about how pointless this fight is, and how he should join the Banished.
However, this didn't stop Jovus' defiance, as he tried to charge at Atriox, later facing the end of his Chainbreaker in the process.
Headed for the Ark[]
Aboard the Enduring Conviction, the Banished later arrived at Installation 00, with Decimus leading the charge. During the initial battle, he personally led the assault on the Henry Lamb Research Outpost, with his forces killing everyone there. They also went to pillage the place for supplies. He also was the one tasked with excavation across the Ark, and also collected many of the resources there, including salvaged supplies from the war prior, eventually accessing a cartographer, where they had control over the portal network.
The Spirit of Fire[]
Decimus first encountered the crew when they attacked his base, which was one of the sites where he was in charge of the resource gathering. Eventually, Decimus appeared on the battlefield himself, and later retreated and ordered a bombardment upon his own base, killing UNSC and Banished troops, but he apparently had an energy shield around his exoskeleton, keeping him alive for a short period of time. Even after all that, the humans still persevered, obtaining records that could lead them to the cartographer that they had.
Last stand and death[]
Two days later, he was tasked with protecting the portals, as the humans had learned of their control over the portal network.
Enraged, Decimus faced off against the Spirit of Fire crew again while they were trying to shut it down after Atriox took control of it. Decimus fought them for a second time, using the same tactics from their previous encounter, and held them off as long as he could. But the combined might of the UNSC Forces had damaged his exoskeleton, later killing him. Before he died he told the humans to enjoy their victory, as he said it would be short-lived.
After his death, it had took a toll on the Banished. Eventually, Atriox had appointed Escharum as his second in command, later meeting his end due to the Master Chief himself.
