~ Susie Haltmann introducing the Dedede Clone. |
The Dedede Clone is one of the ten bosses of Kirby: Planet Robobot, being fought at the end of the fifth world Rhythm Route, and reappears as Dedede Clone 2.0 during the True Arena and Meta Knightmare Returns. He's an imperfect clone of King Dedede created by the Haltmann Works Company, and used by the company's secretary Susie to try and stop Kirby from interfering with the invasion of Planet Popstar. he has most of the original Dedede's abilities, as well as the power to split into three smaller, less durable versions of himself.
Like the original Dedede, he was voiced by Shinya Kumazaki.
Appearance[]
Clone Dedede is very similar to the real Dedede, being an anthropomorphic penguin with a winter coat and hat that wields a hammer, but with some notable differences. The fur on his coat is spikier, and he has glowing, pure magenta eyes. He also has the Haltmann Works Company's logo on the ends of his hammer and the back of his coat. The normal Dedede Clone is several shades of purple, while the 2.0 version is tan and light yellow.
Biography[]
After the Haltmann Works Company takes over Popstar, Dreamland's king Dedede is cloned, though the end result isn't a perfect recreation. After Kirby defeats Mecha Knight, Susie meets him at the end of Rhythm Route, unleashing the clone to attack him, fighting him in a tower with the elevator gradually moving up to the roof.
Clone Dedede mostly uses the normal one's attacks, such as swinging his hammer, inhaling powerfully, floating, sliding on the ground and jumping up high to slam down. After getting damaged enough, he splits into three globs of purple slime, that then form into smaller versions of himself. From there, the three smaller clones will do the aforementioned attacks. When one takes enough damage, it explodes into a puddle of purple slime. After a while the defeated clone will regenerate, though will be weaker each time it does so. Once the health bar is depleted completely, the elevator reaches the roof, where the second phase of the fight begins.
The three clones reform and jump into the seats of a large machine known as the D3 Cannon. The cannon moves along a set of rails on the rooftop, and the three clones will use this to either dodge Kirby's attacks, or try ramming into him. They are able to fire a large laser beam, three jets of fire, a rabid fire of projectiles, and a large bomb that must be attacked to send back at them before it explodes, the final one activating when reaching half health. Once the clones are defeated a second time, the D3 Cannon explodes, launching them into the sky. The three then explode, leaving behind sparks each in the shape of the letter D.
Dedede Clone 2.0 functions similarly, but with his attacks being faster and dealing more damage. However, he also has three new attacks. after moving to one side of the room, he'll fire two sets of yellow energy balls that home in on the player. He can also hover in the air and fire several small white energy balls from his hammer towards the ground. Both of these attacks grant the Beam Ability should Kirby inhale the energy balls. The final new attack involves the three smaller clones jumping high into the air and slamming their hammers down, sending forward small shockwaves.
Quotes[]
“ | Susie somehow managed to acquire DNA from King Dedede, one of the strongest life-forms on the planet, in order to create this clone. It has the voice and look of the original Dedede... and it may be even more powerful. | „ |

“ | Something was missing from Dedede's clone -- a weapon of immense power. When Susie realized this, she introduced the D3 Cannon, a tridimentional cannon controlled by three Dedede Clones. | „ |

“ | It has the look and voice of King Dedede, but not his soul. Some things can't be cloned. Some of the trial models were only interested in food, some were fearful of a certain insect, and all were imperfect. | „ |
~ The pause screen description of the Dedede Clone 2.0 in its first phase. |
“ | This tridimentional cannon is extremely expensive, costing a whopping four times more than Mecha Knight. However, it's still much cheaper than Haltmann's Executive Suit, which is made of pure gold. | „ |

Trivia[]
- The pause description for Dedede Clone 2.0 includes references to King Dedede's previous appearances:
- Some of them were solely interested in food, in reference to the original Kirby's Dream Land and Kirby Super Star's Spring Breeze, where King Dedede stole all of the food in Dream Land as well as the Sparkling Stars.
- Some were scared of a certain insect, heavily implying that the events of Kirby: Triple Deluxe left King Dedede with spheksophobia, a fear of wasps (most likely Queen Sectonia).
