Deep Rock Galactic are the titular main protagonists of the 2018 team-based FPS of the same name, being an interplanetary mining corporation that specializes in securing the most dangerous dig sites in the galaxy. While their workforce does operate to slay hostile aliens on Hoxxes IV, they are generally a greedy, corrupt organization that is willing to destroy entire planets and abandon their own employees, just so they can make a profit.
History[]
Backstory[]
Deep Rock Galactic is stated to be the most tenacious space mining corporation in the known galaxy. They mine all of the most lucrative planets in the Outer Rim, while their competitors generally regard these as too volatile or high-risk.
They have 89 Orbital Space Rigs in operation throughout more than a dozen Outer Rim systems, with 16 more currently under construction.
The company has recently started a new mining operation, one far larger and complex than any of their previous ones: the complete subjugation of Hoxxes IV, the most lucrative and hostile mining location in the galaxy.
Due to the danger present in the planets owned by Deep Rock Galactic, the company primarily uses Dwarves as their miners.
Season 01[]
Deep Rock's deepscans started picking up energy signatures massing on the outer edge of the system. It was later discovered that this came from a rival faction that started to set up bases on Hoxxes IV.
All of management's attempts to communicate with the new intruders were unsuccessful and thus they decided to send their operatives to exterminate them.
Season 02[]
Despite the Dwarves' best efforts, the intruders (also known as "The Rivals") have not only continue to invade Hoxxes IV, but they have also escalated on their offensive against Deep Rock's miners. The Rivals have started to burrow even deeper into the crust of Hoxxes and set up new communications networks. They have also created a new kind of robot, nicknamed the Nemesis, specially designed to take on DRG operatives.
In response, Deep Rock's R&D department have begun to do their best to study the new threats and create new weapons to help the Dwarves in their fight against the Rivals.
Season 03[]
Through the Dwarves' counter-attack, the Rivals have been defeated and their operations in Hoxxes IV have become near non-existent. However, victory was short lived, since soon after a rogue comet passed through the system, shedding hundreds of infected meteoroids. Many of these infected meteoroids ended up on Hoxxes IV, spreading a plague known as the Rockpox throughout the fauna, flora and even the very solid ground of the planet.
Due to how harmful this alien plague is to the planet's minerals, DRG decided to order their Dwarves to exterminate the Rockpox from Hoxxes IV.
Season 04[]
As DRG's battle against the rampaging Lithophage escalates, new mutations of the alien disease start to appear, making the situation even worse for the Dwarves. Among these new variants, the Lithophage Corruptor is the most dangerous, being a mutated Plagueheart, fully mobile abominations that spread Rockpox wherever they go.
After the destruction of many plaguehearts, the Rockpox simply began to halt its spread across the planet. It is implied that the Rockpox possess some kind of hive mind and that the Dwarves dealt so much damage to the plague's collective conscience, that even plaguehearts that had yet to be exterminated began to die out.
While there are some remnants of Rockpox in Hoxxes IV, it is only a matter of time until the planet is clean of it's infection.
