“ | Mondo: What good is it to keep making Cogs if the Rangers just turn them into scrap metal? They're absolutely worthless! I am sick and tired of wasting valuable materials on robots that always end up as junk! Klank: But dear majesty, do Orbus and I have a plan that won't use up any new materials at all. Mondo: Well, go on. Elaborate. Klank: It's a lovely idea and it all begins in our component dump. Orbus: You see my king, we're using old parts to make a whole new robot. I give you Defector. Mondo: Very clever but tell me, Klank. What makes your robot any better than the junk it's created from? Klank: It is all in the way we plan to use him, yer majesty. Orbus: We'll have Defector go undercover. He'll gain the Rangers' trust and lure them to a place where we'll be able to destroy them. Mondo: And their trust will be their downfall. Bring this new robot to me. |

Biography[]
Past[]
The various monsters and Cogs that would become the Defector were manufactured by the Machine Empire, working under King Mondo and Queen Machina. With thier monsters and never-ending army of Cogs, the Machine Empire was able to devastate and conquer entire galaxies.
Zeo[]
In 1996, King Mondo leads his Machine Empire to the Moon where they drive out Lord Zedd and Rita Repulsa but their invasion is ultimately stalled by the interference of the Zeo Rangers.
After King Mondo complains that making so many Cogs is a waste of resources since they wind up being destroyed anyway, Klank suggests creating a monster from the Machine Empire's component dump to reuse materials. Having seen Rocky learning not to judge others based on their outward appearances after meeting the blind martial artist Penny, Klank and Orbus suggest using their new monster to pretend to defect and lure the Zeo Rangers into a trap so he has assorted monster parts merge together and form the Defector who he teaches to trick the Rangers before sending him to Earth. The Defector lands near Angel Grove Park before fleeing to a nearby factory where is is confronted by the Zeo Rangers. Although he pleads his innocence by saying he doesn't want to hurt others or fight, the Defector is forced to flee. Very soon after though, he rescues a dog from being hit by a car which earns him Rocky's trust so Mondo stages an attack on the Defector at the Angel Grove Quarry by Klank and the Cogs.
Rocky oversees it from nearby and morphs to help his new friend but the battle goes in the Machine Empire's favor with even Mondo himself participating in the deception until the other Rangers arrive. With the trap sprung, Klank turns the Defector against them through mental torture with the monster easily overwhelming four of the Rangers until Rocky is the last Ranger standing. Enraged at the betrayal, he kicks away the monster and overwhelms him with the Zeo III Power Spin and Power Tonfa finisher but the Defector survives so Tommy summons the Defender Wheel. Instead of Tommy though, Rocky convinces his friend to let him pilot it since he feels guilty for being tricked and uses the Defender Wheel to destroy the Defector. Due to his body being obliterated on impact, the Defector is not able to be enlarged by Klank and Orbus.
Personality[]
“ | Rocky: I never should've trusted you. I can't believe I fell for your trick. Defector: That's the problem with you humans. You're much too trusting. Rocky: Well, you can trust one thing. Defector: And what's that? Rocky: I'll never let you hurt my friends. It's too bad you didn't really desert King Mondo. You would've been better off on our side. |

~ Rocky and the Defector about the latter's betrayal. |
The Defector was a brutish and dimwitted creature loyal to King Mondo as well as Klank and Orbus who required much guidance to follow his orders. However, he was also a good actor and manipulator who was able to deceive and trick Rocky into believing his lies. The Defector also proved to be fearless, arrogantly claiming the Rangers couldn't hurt him and laughing even as the Defender Wheel approached.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Strength: The Defector could knock down Cogs with single strikes from his drill arm, knock away Klank and the Cogs by spinning, defeat a large group of Cogs with Rocky's help and force back Rocky by stabbing him with his drill arm.
- Durability: The Defector survived jumping off a building, being struck down by King Mondo, shot by a Cog's eye blasts, struck by lightning, bombarded by rocks and blasted by Mondo's lightning rain without getting a scratch. Even Rocky's Zeo III Power Spin and Power Axes finisher failed to destroy him.
- Expert Fighter: The Defector easily overwhelmed a large group of Cogs as well as the Zeo Rangers.
- Skilled Manipulator: The Defector was able to convince Rocky that he was a turncoat and manipulated Rocky into falling for Klank's trap.
- Acting: The Defector was a convincing enough liar and actor to convince Rocky that he meant well.
- Super Jumps: The Defector could jump incredible distances with single leaps, being able to jump several hundred feet far to rescue a dog from being hit by a car.
- Teleportation: The Defector could teleport to any location at will be letting blue energy consume him, shrinking into a small blue dot and launching into space.
- Agility: The Defector could land, roll and roll out of the way of a car in a single movement.
Weaknesses[]
- Weak Armour: Due to being constructed out of materials from a scrapyard, the Defector's durability was very limited to such an extent that the Defender Wheel destroyed him. He was the only monster it ever completely destroyed.
- Electrocution Device: The Defector was helpless against the Machine Empire's torture device which electrocuted and caused him immense pain until he turned on the Zeo Rangers.
Arsenal[]
- Drill Arm: The Defector's only weapon was the razor sharp spear-like drill attachment he had for a left arm.
- Energy Slashes: The Defector could channel orange energy into his drill arm and fire powerful energy slashes which were powerful enough to cause large explosions and knock down all five Zeo Rangers.
- Fist: The Defector had a normal right arm but he used it to easily overwhelm the Cogs in battle.
