Dejar is the main antagonist of the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Destiny".
She was portrayed by Jessica Hendra.
Biography[]
Dejar was a Cardassian scientist who travelled to Deep Space 9 to join her Science Ministry colleagues Ulani and Gilora. The purpose of the visit was to take part in a joint Federation-Cardassian-Bajoran project to set up a communications relay to allow communication through the wormhole between the Alpha and Gamma Quadrants. In reality, Dejar was a member of the Obsidian Order, who opposed Cardassia's treaty with Bajor, who had been assigned to the project for security reasons. In contrast to Gilora and Ulani, who had been friendly towards the station's crew and residents, Dejar was cold and distant. When the other two women admitted they didn't like Cardassian cuisine and normally ate offworld food at the Ministry, Dejar commented that scientists were spoilt and some believed themselves better than the average Cardassian.
Dejar accompanied the USS Defiant to the Gamma Quadrant where she helped monitor the tests of the communication relay. The tests caused a shift in gravity that left a comet containing silithium on a course towards the wormhole, which would cause it to collapse if it entered. Ulani and Gilora admitted that their tests had shown a small chance of this happening but the military had encouraged them to keep quiet. Dejar indicated they would probably be removed from the project as a result.
Chief O'Brien came up with a plan to enhance the phasers so they would vaporise the comet. However, Dejar sabotaged the main emitter couplings, intending for the first Cardassian-Bajoran collaboration to end in failure and put an end to any joint projects in the future. The modifications failed to come online and a standard phaser burst simply split the comet into three fragments that were still on course to the wormhole. At this point, Gilora revealed Dejar's true allegiances. Dejar attempted to deny any wrongdoing but Major Kira pointed out that a DNA scan of the coupling would show if she'd tampered with it. Commander Sisko ordered her confined to quarters.
After Sisko and Kira had resolved the matter by using a shuttlecraft's tractor beam to safely guide the comet fragments through the wormhole, ironically helping the relay function in the process, Gilora predicted Dejar would be in a lot of trouble since the Obsidian Ordan didn't reward failure.
