The Del Lago is a minor antagonist from the Resident Evil franchise, serving as the first boss in both the original Resident Evil 4 and its 2023 remake.
It is a giant mutated salamander living in El Pueblo's lake, guarding it from anyone approaching by boat. It serves as the game's first boss.
Appearance[]
In both the original game and the remake, Del Lago is a salamander who has grown to a humongous size as a result of being infected with the Las Plagas parasite. In the original game, Las Plagas tendrils are seen writhing in it's mouth when it charges at Leon.
Biography[]
The Del Lago was one of Los Illuminados' Plaga experiments, hosting a parasite from a salamander. The organism reacted to its small host by mutating it, greatly increasing its size. The mutated salamander was imprisoned in the village's lake due to the cult's inability to control its behavior via the Plaga, which was the original purpose of the experiment. The Del Lago fed on corpses, as Leon S. Kenendy witnessed a Ganados couple throw the body of an uninfected Spanish policeman into the lake.
When Leon first heard of Del Lago in the church where she finds a letter informed by the Ganado that she had been awakened by Osmund Saddler to guard the lake from intruders.
Leon prepares to fight the Del Lago aboard a small motorboat anchored on the lake's shores. As Leon crossed the lake, the Del Lago grabbed onto the boat's anchor. Leon was then pulled behind the Del Lago at breakneck speed. After bombarding the aquatic beast with nearly a dozen harpoons, the Del Lago began to cough up blood and succumb to its injuries, sinking to the bottom of the lake, nearly taking Leon with it.
