Where is Beetlejuice?
~ Delores LaFerve.
Beetlejuice!! I'm back.
~ Delores to Beetlejuice after crashing his wedding to Lydia Deetz.
Your soul belongs to me, my love, for eternity!!
~ Delores planning to drain Beetlejuice's soul in front of Lydia, Astrid, Delia, and Wolf Jackson.

Delores LaFerve is the main antagonist of Tim Burton's 2024 film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the sequel to the 1988 film Beetlejuice. She is the ex-wife and archenemy of the titular character, having been known as a ruthless soul-sucking; witch; who had "unfinished business"; with her ex-husband.

Far from the ideal wife, Delores is for starters the reason for which Beetlejuice tried to marry Lydia Deetz in the original film, only to resurface years later when Lydia's daughter Astrid is tricked into going into the afterlife; thus making Delores go after him at all costs.

She was portrayed by Monica Bellucci, who also played one of Dracula's brides in Bram Stoker's Dracula, Kaileena in Prince of Persia: Warrior Within and the Mirror Queen in The Brothers Grimm.

History[]

Past[]

In a forgotten age, shrouded by death and the plague, the tendrils of our depraved love story unfurled. I was a humble grave robber, plying my trade amidst the corpses of the forsaken. My heart had long withered into the abyss, but destiny, like a phantom, cast its long shadow one cold, starless night... her name, Delores. From the moment I gazed into her cursed eyes, I was bewitched. The ceremony was traditional, we drank each other's blood, bit the heads off a couple of chickens, and sacrificed a goat. Our wedding night was a symphony of carnal pleasures. A macabre opera of lust and untamed desire. But my new bride harbored a sinister secret: she was the leader of a soul sucking death cult. Like a spider closing in on its prey, she was ready to strike. Her quest for immortality demanded two things: my life... and my soul! Hey... I'm into some freaky shit myself. But even I have my limitations, so... we parted ways. She's back.... she's pissed.
~ Beetlejuice truthfully telling about his backstory with Delores and that she has returned for petty revenge.

Back during the Black Plague, Delores was the leader of an evil cult that sucked the souls of unsuspecting sinners and her latest victim was a tomb robber, named Beetlejuice; who immediately fell in love; with her beauty. After carrying out a strange ritual of eating the heads of two recently dead chickens and sacrificing a goat, Delores and Betelgeuse got married and began their wedding night.

At the end of the night, Delores poisoned Beetlejuice's wine; before having him drink it. She even gloats about this to him; when the poison starts to take effect, hoping that; she can absorb his soul for herself. But with his last energy, an enraged Beetlejuice manages to kill Delores; by cutting her; into pieces; with an axe; before he dies. Upon arriving in the Netherworld, Delores' body parts were placed in separate boxes and stored in a lost and found depository so that; she can never threaten anyone again.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice[]

At the depository, an undead janitor is using a floor cleaner to clean the floor, but suddenly, the floor cleaner starts to short-circuit, sending electrical currents towards the boxes and bringing Delores' body parts back to life. Reattaching her own body parts with a grappler gun, she murders the janitor by sucking up his soul, and later does the same to an undead Asian dry store owner in order to get a dress for herself. She spent the entirety of the film going on a murderous spree, draining several souls of the dead while searching for Beetlejuice, and the undead detective Wolf Jackson warns Beetlejuice of Delores' return, telling him to keep a low profile. However, Beetlejuice gets summoned by Lydia, who reluctantly offers to marry him in exchange for saving her saving her daughter Astrid from the teenage killer Jeremy Frazier.

Delores breaks into Beetlejuice's bio-exorcist office, only to see that no one is there (except for Beetlejuice's assistant Bob, who is hiding under his desk). Upon spotting Beetlejuice and Lydia's photos on Beetlejuice's desk, Delores lustfully licks Beetlejuice's picture and crushes Lydia's picture with her foot before leaving.

Following Jeremy's damnation to Hell, Wolf and the Ghoul Squad attempted to arrest Beetlejuice for illegally bringing Lydia to the afterlife, only to learn it is Bob disguising himself as Beetlejuice. Upon hearing of this, Delores meets Bob at the police station while continuing her search for Beetlejuice and drains Bob's soul.

During the climax, Beetlejuice prepares to marry Lydia in the church after exposing Rory of his plot to marry Lydia for her money, but Delores finally arrives, hoping to finally drain Beetlejuice's soul. However, Beetlejuice distracts Delores by turning Rory over to her, allowing Delia and Astrid to open a portal to summon a sandworm from Titan and Beetlejuice leads it to devour Delores and Rory, killing them both for good.

Personality[]

Given to Beetlejuice's backstory as he explains it, Delores is shown to be a cold, manipulative, ruthless and vengeful witch who doesn't care about the lives of others as long as it means she gets immortality. This was shown as she poisoned her husband and even smiling about it, making her a black widow. Even after being hacked to death by Beetlejuice before they entered into the afterlife, Delores refuses to give up her dream of achieving immortality.

Although it was quite clear to everyone (including Beetlejuice) that Delores is incapable of loving anyone, Delores is shown to be quite petty, hypocritical and possessive as she wanted Beetlejuice all for herself, refusing to accept the fact that her intent to kill him for his soul is what got her killed in the first place.

Powers and Abilities[]

Delores is quite powerful. She apparently has the ability to functionally kill even already dead ghosts. On top of that, while she is not shown displaying the fluidity of power Beetlejuice does, he apparently can't use his powers to outmaneuver or affect her like he can with everyone else. Despite this, she can be killed by sandworms.

In life, Delores was a member of an ancient sect which practiced black magic, being a sorceress very knowledgeable in the dark arts and was also knowledgeable about poisons.

Trivia[]

  • Delores' debut in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice finally explains to who belonged the finger with a ring seen in the original Beetlejuice film, as prior to her appearance, it was believed by fans that the finger belonged to some random victim of Beetlejuice.
