The Demonic Entity is one of the two overarching antagonists (alongside Alpha Diablosaurus) of Adult Swim's animated series Primal.

In the depths of the underworld, there exists a colossal and malevolent being, surpassing the might and terror of any mortal or creature. When the courageous Viking Chieftain, having fought valiantly against the formidable adversaries known as Fang and Spear, finds himself on the brink of death, this otherworldly entity emerges from the shadows with an ominous purpose. Aware of the Viking's burning desire for vengeance, the entity employs its supernatural abilities to metamorphose the valiant warrior into a fearsome demon, granting him the power and strength necessary to exact his retribution upon those who have wronged him.

Description[]

Appearance[]

He is an immense humanoid with an obsidian-colored complexion, possessing striking crimson eyes that blaze like flames. Adding to its fearsome countenance are two elongated horns, hands adorned with sharp claws, and hooves reminiscent of a demonic being. This imposing figure seems to possess the ability to manipulate fire, as its very form has been witnessed emitting this scorching element.

Personality[]

There is little know regarding the personality of the Fire Giant, as not much information is available. However, when it presents itself to the Viking Chieftain through visions, it emits an air of stoicism and menace, creating an intimidating presence. Interestingly, the only noticeable change in its appearance is the shape of its eyes, which seemingly alters to mirror its current disposition. Astonishingly, the Fire Giant extended an opportunity to the Chieftain, granting him a second chance to seek retribution against Spear and Fang. Nevertheless, the motivation behind this offer remains ambiguous and unclear.

Biography[]

The demon lord made its initial presence known when the Viking Chieftain was peacefully asleep alongside his son, Eldar, at their campsite. During his slumber, the demon lord cunningly infiltrated his dreams, presenting a haunting vision of his beloved wife, Rikka, trapped within the menacing jaws of the fearsome creature known as Fang. As if this disturbing illusion wasn't enough, the demon lord then materialized before the startled chieftain, emerging from the very heart of the crackling campfire, abruptly jolting him awake from his peaceful slumber.

Later on, he emerged at a time when the chieftain was forcibly transported to the depths of the underworld by malevolent goblin-like creatures and was subsequently presented before him. At this point, he cunningly proposed a transaction to the chieftain, suggesting that if he were to eliminate Spear and Fang and surrender their souls to him, he, in return, would revive the soul of his beloved son, Eldar. Unfortunately, the chieftain, consumed by an insatiable desire for retribution, uncontrolled rage, and the torment of his own personal demons, succumbed to the wicked manipulations of the demon lord and foolishly accepted the agreement, blindly swearing his loyalty to the malevolent demon. As a consequence, he heartlessly exploited his supernatural abilities to mercilessly alter the chieftain's very essence, transforming him into an entity of fiery destruction and thereby forcing him to serve as an imposing symbol of his subservience.

When the Chieftain finally located Spear and Fang, he utilized the newfound abilities bestowed upon him by the Fire Giant to launch a ferocious assault on the duo. After a grueling battle, the Chieftain managed to deliver a fatal blow to Spear, causing him severe injury. Yet, in a twist of fate, the very arm of the formidable Fire Giant emerged dramatically from the Earth's surface, forcefully stripping the Chieftain of his enhanced powers, transforming him back into his original state, and mercilessly dragging him down to the depths of the underworld.

Power and Abilities[]

  • Fire Magic: He possesses an extraordinary mastery of magical abilities that enable him to command and manipulate fire and molten lava. With these awe-inspiring powers at his disposal, he is capable of executing an array of extraordinary deeds and accomplishing feats that surpass imagination.
    • Fire Manifestation: The ability to manifest oneself in the form of fire, such as being able to take on the appearance and characteristics of a campfire or any other fiery form.
    • Resurrection: The figure possessed the ability to resurrect the Viking Chieftain, who was forcefully taken to its dwelling.
    • Power Sharing: Apart from bringing back the Chieftain from the dead, the entity also had the ability to metamorphose him into a similar entity, endowing him with extraordinary abilities. Furthermore, it possessed the capability to swiftly withdraw the bestowed power from the Chieftain and forcibly return him to the depths below.

Trivia[]

  • The being's true identity is never given in the series. According to Genndy Tartakovsky, despite his connection to the Vikings, it is not necessarily a direct reference to any specific character in mythologies. He also elaborated that it was up to the audience to classify him the way they would like to.
    • Some fans of the series have attributed the entity the following names: Vidarr, after the Norse god of revenge due to the entity first appearing in the eponymous episode, its offering of retribution for the Viking Chieftain's slain kinsmen (as well as due to the fact that the Viking Chieftain repeated that name); Surtr, on account of the being ruling over a realm of fire; The Scorpion due to the Vikings' connection to the animal in question.
  • The Demonic Entity is one of three enemies in the series who does not get killed or receive any other form of actual defeat. The first adversary was the Mammoth Matriarch, who got away alongside her herd after accepting a token of apology from Spear for his and Fang's butchering of one of her elderly males. The second enemy was the Head Witch, who survived Lula's betrayal and likely may had continued with her dark rituals.
  • He is one of two enemies in the series whom Spear and Fang had never encountered, the other one being the escaped deranged inmate. However, the Demonic Entity engaged Spear and Fang through a proxy, as in the Viking Chieftain, while the Mad Man couldn't face them as he lived during the 19th century, far different from the primary setting of Primal.
